Byron is a beautiful place. It is however being turned into a money grabbing tourist mecca. There are nice places around like Lennox, Ballina, Bangalow, Mullumbimby that have nice beaches and pubs..Not sure what changes you mean, but as councils round the nations take, take take, the little local hurts more, more, more..

My older friends tell me that it has changed from an alternative lifestyle 'hippy' town with a vibrant culture to an expensive over crowded yuppie's playground with herds of obnoctious drunk tourists fighting and spewing on the streets all night.

I only know the later version... and it's still a pretty cool place to visit.

the changes are not for the better - too crowded & busy - very expensive.
