I quit cold turkey in 1971 and have pretty much stayed quit ever since. It took me several tries before I was able to stay quit, but my last cigarette was in September of that year. I smoked an occasional cigar for a time after that, but my last cigar was in 1977.
First, the cravings will eventually go away. What may help you is to find several friends who also want to quit and form your own support group. There are also support groups already organized for smokers who want to quit.
I don't recommend the patch, the inhaler or the gum--they don't always work and you are likely to depend on them if you use them and that isn't helping what is already a substance problem.
The best advice I can give you is don't give up. If you truly want to quit you can quit, but it could take you several tries. Backsliding is very normal.
Good luck and don't give up.

Heya,
Try this: Just try to trick your mind and just say to yourself that you are not stopping forever but only for a while..
The pressure of telling yourself that you will never smoke again is too heavy. However it will be easier to consider having a break.
Everytime the cravings come, just resist, get busy ( go on internet, clean your house, car, dog......), do Sports....
After a few days u will feel much beeter and it will only help you more.
Keep on pushing the next cigarette away without saying I will never smoke again.
First 3 month are the hardest.
I used this technique before and managed to stop for one year and started again for a silly reason.
I have now "paused" again and so far so good ( its been 2 weeks).
Good luck.

Buy 2 boxes of chocolates, like Snickers, Mars and so on and keep one at your place and the other in your car. Whenever you are thinking of cigarettes, you`ll get the craving obviously!
So, substitute the cigarette for a bar of chocolate instead and develop that behaviour. However, you MUST make sure you then provide additional care to your body.
For example, make sure you go to a gym weekly to lose out the excess calories + adopt good diet + brush teeth twice if not thrice, everyday.

I stopped by not having any smokes, whenever I wanted to buy them I made sure I wouldn't have enough money for them. Good luck, by the way its not as hard as you percieve. If you tell yourself it will easy to stop it will be, mind over matter. It really does work.
