It may take a couple of weeks. My husband went to Knox for basic, and I know they've changed the way they do it now, but it was a while before I got a letter or phone call. He sat in reception for 3 weeks doing cleaning details all day because they didn't have enough recruits to start the cycle yet. In reception, he didn't have an address for me to write to and he didn't really have time to write home. Once he actually started basic, I got a few letters a week, and a phone call on Sundays MOST of the time. Phone privileges depended on if he screwed up or if someone in his platoon screwed up. If they did exceptionally well, they might get an extra call. They were always short though, maybe 10 minutes or so.

That was about 5 years ago, and I know they're less strict on a lot of things now (due to the recruiting problems caused by the war - they're a little nicer to try and get people to actually join). I know it sucks to wait, but I'm sure he will write to first chance he gets. Your life from now on will be all about waiting on him - phone calls, letters, leave days, and if you get married late nights, deployments, etc. The first few weeks of basic are the hardest for both of you - it will get better soon, and before you know it you'll be at his basic training graduation!

It depends. You might get a letter from him in the 2nd or 3rd week. It depends upon what they are doing during training. Understand that bootcamp is very intensive training and there is little time for extra things. They do allow letter writing but you only have a certain amount of time prior to lights out to write what you can and to who you can. I'm sure you will get one soon.

Well it depends... How far you are from where he is at. It also depends on when he writes to you. It is as simple as that actually.

In basic training you are allowed to write letters and mail them out. I would suggest waiting at least two weeks. When you first get to basic, you are very busy and preoccupied with things and getting adjusted. Don't worry. I know it can be hard to wait but if he said he was going to write to you, he will.

with in a week or two once he is settled in.

he will have very limited free time to write, and calls will most likely be nonexistent. whether or not you get any depends on whether or not he takes the time to write them. Mine didn't.

You will never hear from him again, for one of two reasons.
1) He will meet a woman at an off-base honky-tonk.
2) He will decide he enjoys the company of men.
