It is not true. Everyone gets depressed.
Seems you need to ask yourself why you're 'always' depressed.
I count my blessings when I get depressed and it helps.

I agree with Christie.

but I want to add that True Believers will suffer. Anyone who tells you differently is telling you a false gospel. A true Convert will face trials and temptations. There are a ton of people in the Christian Church who own their own home, own two cars, have money in the bank, and can pay for their children's college. These "Christians" have not sacrificed anything for Christ. They are happy shiney people who go to chruch and make business connections and real estate deals. If you don't believe me, go to a really large church and ask all those in the church audience to stand up if they are a Real Estate Agent, or a Loan Officer, or a Car Dealer or any type of person who needs to make business deals through networking in order to make money.
THEN ASK THE QUESTION:
"How many of you have ever lead someone in the sinners prayer?"
THEIR ANSWER:
"WELL, you don't have to evangelize to be a true Christian."
"Jesus will just show himself to others by how HAPPY I am"
"Then others will see what I have and they too will want to be HAPPY." "WHEW hoo, we're all so HaPPY and Glad"

The Lord didn't say, "Go into all the world and show them how happy and glad you are."
He said, "Go into the World and Preach the Gospel."
But, I have to admitt, that when I'm not liking my life circumstances and I feel down and depressed. I can turn those feelings around by Singing Praise songs and reading my Bible.

Hey girl!

This is what depression is to me: Not letting God have whatever is bothering you.

A lot of times I cannot get joyful. But sometimes I can. I figure that it's my expectations bringing me down. I expect things to go according to MY plan. And that 'sucks of me'. lol

Then I start thinking, who made ME God? Why is it that I have to get what I think that I want? Doesn't the scriptures say that God cares for me? And doesn't Jesus say:
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
(Matthew 6:25 - 27)

If you are a Christian then realize that God cares for you!!!! You cannot be in better hands. If you want something from Him, ask! And He said that He will do it.

So knock it off! You are a citizen of a Heavenly Kingdom, a pilgrim on a journey, and a child of the one and only living God!

Smile! That's an ORDER!!! LOL

If we know who we ARE "in Christ", and are aware of the NEW identity we have been given thru being a NEW CREATION, then the fruit of the SPIRIT, which IS Joy , will be evident and a reality.

Joy is not something we produce, but something Christ brings with Him when He takes up residence IN us. "The joy OF THE LORD is our strength"

If you are depressed then I would suggest you talk to your doctor or a counselor to find out if there is a physical reason for it that can be treated.

Study what God has actually DONE for you at the Cross, and who He has made you to BE....if that doesnt cheer you up, then there is a possibility you havent HEARD the gospel that saves today.

Christians have an inheritance in the kingdom of God which is righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). They also have abundant life (John 10;10).
So they ought have joy which is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23). They enjoy the fruit of the Spirit by walking in the Spirit.

Actually, for true Christians joy is a result of allowing God to be your source of direction, hope, faith, comfort, and knowledge. I'm my happiest when considering spiritual things, praying, or worshipping God. To each his/her own, though. Not everything works for all people. Different people become joyful in other ways.

But if you are interested in the Bible, it can definitely aid you if you're interested in getting to know God better.

Peace be with you

I think whoever told you that needs to grow up. There is only one person who has a right to decide if you are a Christian and that is Jesus. It is easy to get depressed, especially if you have difficult social pressures to deal with.
If you are worried about your depression, then maybe you should see a doctor, but do that because you are worried about your wellbeing, not because someone decided you didn't meet their standard of Christianity.

Yes... as a true Christian.. you have accepted Christ as your saviour...and this is the ultimate joy that one christian should feel for the rest of his life...wherein this joy radiates from his being and touches the lives of others..bringing them good tidings and peace...

Christ said He came to make our joy complete. That means despite circumstances we are made joyful when we fully rely on Him. Usually, depression and sadness come from growing pains as He is trying to bring us closer to Him. If you seek Him in your depression and wait, you will have breakthroughs. I feel the same way sometimes when i get pessimistic about things. Even as I try to keep my head up, I realized that for myself, it is usually when I disobey the call to pray and spend time with Him that I forget to trust in Him. Hopefully, you will find peace in giving your situations even your own faults to God so He can share your burden and give you a lighter load to carry.

not true. I have really devout Christian friends who are unhappy, and one of them is even emo. She's a nice girl, but just constantly depressed. So, that goes to show that anyone can be happy or unhappy. Religion doesn't matter.
