More information please as stated your question leaves far too many variables..
Is it better to give up or murder a police man .. Give up..
Is it better to give up or murder a man holding a gun to your head .. murder in self defense..
See too many variables that can lead to too the right choice being either answer..

If you are talking about being in a situation in which you may have to defend yourself,then self defense is not murder.

Why should you give up your life unlawfully to a murderer when you could defend it lawfully?
