Hi! First of all while still in medical school, they are just plain medical students just like any other student from any course. After graduation, there is the post-graduate internship where-in they are called "interns". They are not yet full-pledged doctors until they pass the medical licensure exams. At this point, they may opt to practice general medicine or undergo residency training or specialization for a number of years. For instance, one who goes to surgery becomes a surgeon, pediatricians concentrate in children, etc. One may still undergo further subspecialty training. e.g. thoracic surgery or pediatric cardiology. So, you see, from the moment one enters medical school, they never stop studying medicine. It's a dynamic science where it is ever changing. What is true today may be false tomorrow. In essence, even full pledged doctors or "super specialists" are still considered "medical students".

How about "physician"?
During medical school, doctors-in-training are called medical students. They frequently denote the year that they are in (1-4) after the initials MS, so a third year medical student is known as an "MS3".
Following graduation, doctors do a residency, or post-graduate education. They are denoted as PGY-1, PGY-2, etc, meaning post-graduate year 1, 2, etc. But they sign their notes as MD, not their PGY status. The PGY -1 year is also known as internship.
After residency, we're all physicians. We're still always studying, always learning new things.
Hope that answers your question.

There are many different branches which deal specifically with medicine (though you should not limit the health care field to the restrictions of the ability to prescribe and treat with medicine. All the people, even Psychiatrists, the medicine prescribing counterpart of the psychologist must receive His/Her M.D.
The lists go on and on that actually deal with medicine in their fields. But that should give you a good idea of what each expert in specialties has to achieve in order to do so.

Doctors practice medicine, more of a service oriented science. The ology are the "to stuy" or the study of" They are scientist who do more research. So Pharmacists practice pharmacy but Pharmacologists study the effects of chemicals upon the human body (more research related)
