Put a flea control on her to begin with either revolution / frontline / advantage and use it every 28 days without fail for 6 months to break the flea cycle.
You can use antihistamine polaramine to aid with the itching 1/4 tablet 1-2 times/day for several days until skin settles.

And the vet offered you no fleas advice at all? Doubtful.

You need to get rid of the fleas. Frontline or Advantage monthly for the dog, foggers for the house, spray for the yard, both house and yard treatments should contain an Insect Growth Regulator or the problem will start all over again in a couple weeks.

Other possible causes of hair loss, thyroid problems, and skin infections, some of which are contagious to people. Hope your vet checked for those too.

If you went to the vet did he give you some pills for the dog ?
My dog is allergic to fleas and got a horrible rash and lost all her fur on her back end and tail, the vet gave her a steroid cream and pills that cleared it up quickly. Also you have to flea treat the house and the dog as well and then keep it clear so it won't happen again.
If your vet didn't do anything you need to find another vet.

If the vet didnt offer any suggestions then i think its time you saw another vet, to start with get advantage, frontline or revolution Is your dog in a tick infested area?(bush, forest, woods, ect?)Because then you will need something that will cover ticks aswell like advatix or frontline plus or something like that. For the alergy part, you can go to the vet or local pet shop and get a medicated shampoo or soap that will help protect and heal the coat. But i do suggest going back to another vet becasue they can offer something stronger that will help your dog with the itchyness and soreness that flea allergy dermatitis can cause.
Good luck.

What did the vet say? I would suggest first a flea bath, you could use pert plus as it kills fleas. Then use drops such as advantage or similar product. To help heal and moisturize the skin is bare I would use Avons Skin-So-Soft. A lot of the time when a dogs hair falls out its not actually an allery to fleas but an allergy to flea poop. Some times vets will give you allery pills too.

If your vet isn't telling you what to do, I suggest you see another vet. We can't tell you anything better then what a vet can.
