How long does a female remain in heat? How often do they come into heat? How old are they when they can first start going into heat? What is the earliest age you can spay and neuter? I think my yorkie may be pregnant? Accident! What are some signs? Other than the obvious! Droopy nipples and big tummy! I think our male may have just gotten her! How can we tell this soon in! She just recently went into heat! I want to have her spayed so it doesn't happen again but the vet said to wait until her heat is over! We just got her (adopted her about 3 weeks ago) and our male may have gotten to her! Also we are having my male neutered tomorrow! What can I do to help him through afterwards? Also I ask how early can they be spayed and neutered so that if she is pregnant i can spay and neuter the puppies before I find them new homes!

well you see i didnt spay my pug lucy cause i wanted to breed her but before i could she developed pyometra, this is a deadly uturis infection that happens when they go into heat. out of every 5 dogs 3 dogs get it.
Lucy is one of them. The only way to cure pyometra is by spaying your dogs.
I have learned my lesson and now i leave it up to the professionals for the breeding.
i would answer all your questions but i think the important answer i can give you is to spay your dog if you want to keep he/she around for life. good luck

A heat cycle lasts about 3 weeks.. a female has her first heat around 6-9 months, and comes into heat about every 6 months (varies from dog to dog).

Earliest age a s/n can be done is 8 weeks, as long as the puppy is at least 2 pounds. Some vets will not s/n this young, but some will.

If you really think that your male got to her, it would be better to do a spay soon and terminate the pregnancy while its still early on. Spaying during heat/pregnancy is alot easier on a dog than going thru pregnancy and birth. There are alot more risks associated with pregnancy than with a heat spay. Vets normally prefer to wait until a heat cycle is over, but if you express your concern about her being pregnant, he can reccommend a spay date.

Your boy will be groggy when he comes home.. its the anastesia wearing off. Offer a little food and water, he probably will just want to sleep. You may want to crate him and keep him away from your female a few days to keep him calm.

A freshly neutered male can get a female pregnant.. he could possibly have some residual sperm in his system yet. A neutered boy is capable of impregnanting a female up to 30 days after the surgery.

If you just got her three weeks ago and her stomach and nipples are enlarged, she may have been pregnant when you got her. However, you say that she was just recently in heat. How recent? It takes 9 weeks, more or less, for a dog to give birth,so if she was just in heat, she wouldn't be showing yet.She may be having a false pregnancy, during which a dog will show all of the signs of pregnancy, including lactating and digging a "nest",into which she may put toys, shoes, and other items, and attempt to nurse them. This can lead to a pyometra, which is a very serious uterine infection, which is fatal if not treated, and the treatment is emergency spay surgery and antibiotics.I would take her to the vet to be checked to see if she is pregnant. An x-ray will show how many puppies. If she's not pregnant, then get her spayed right away, and get that male neutered.
Female dogs can start coming into heat at 6 months of age.The heat period lasts for about three weeks, and the dog will come into heat about every 6 months.A pup can be spayed or neutered at 4-6 months of age, although some vets wil do it earlier.I'm glad that if the dog is pregnant, that you are doing the responsible thing in getting the pups fixed before you find them new homes

A heat lasts for 21 days or 3 weeks. They come into heat every 6 to 8 months. Puppies come into heat at about 6 months of age. you can Spay your dog at 4 months of age. The signs of being pregnant os increased appetite. Nipples begin to swell and become pink of red. A Yorkie may not show she's pregnant until 2 weeks prior to giving birth. A dog is pregnant anywhere from 57 to 67 days average 63 days after time of mating. Yes you should wait until the heat is over before getting her Spayed. After your male gets neutered just limit his activity for the first week after having the surgery.
