for the person below with tithes. tithes means 10 percent. we are strict with this too. the Bible tells us we are robbing God and when asked how it was thru tithes. God will bless you. you may struggle and not be wealthy but your needs he will supply. when we dont tithe we are worse off then when we do tithe. and we have more money when we dont tithe. but that is because God blesses us a whole bunch more when we do tithe. and we also should do an additional 5 percent offering. if not more. if you want to go Biblical they gave everything they had. not just the 10 or 15 percent but it all and walked and preached.
why just mormons. what about the rest our there. because so many others out there as well that are different.
we believe and i am apostolic pentecostal in the book of acts and that it is still happening today. we believe we must be baptized in Jesus name. we believe the father, son and holy ghost are all God. but all are the same. so the father is the son, and the son is the holy ghost. we believe we have to be filled with the Holy Ghost and that the first time you will speak in another language or utterance. and that are women dont cut there hair and they were skirts of dresses and men have short hair and we dont wear makeup or jewlry or piercings, and have no tv and many more things

Mormons dont believe in the divinity of Jesus (That he was God in hte flesh) They do believe that the ultimate a mormon man can attain is godhood. They believe that what man is, God once was. God was given this planet to rule over. God and his goddess wife have actual physical bodies in heaven, have sex and create spirit children who live in heaven until its their time to come to earth into physical bodies.
Women in general arent thought of much more than baby makers (the more a mormon family has the closer to godhood for the father)
Alot of people may be mormons, but their is a reason why they are called a cult and other christian religions are not. Joseph Smith is their prophet, he had a shady backround and all of a sudden after being released from jail on theft charges started talking about his experience with an angel Moroni who gave him actual gold plates for him to transcribe a different gospel or second gospel into (The book of mormon) He would refuse to show anyone these plates stating they were holy. Personally, the Mormon church has almost NOTHING in common with most Christian denominations. Mormons can be very nice people, however the way they describe their religion, it will never be put in the actual terms like this. They make it sound like they are just like any other religion, however they really are not. Its actually quite fascinating to research their religion for the entire strangeness of it.

I have a friend who is Mormon she was Catholic. I found her faith in this group very unsettling. She married with none of her family allowed to be there because they were non-Mormon.
Any religion that has closed sacraments bothers me a lot. One thing about Catholic churches they are open to all, and any sacrament can be witnessed by atheists, mormons, or whoever.
Mormonism is based on a man whogot some writings from an angel and then he set out to settle in a new area with polgamy as one of their okay things to do. This got them kicked out of a lot of states until they settled in Utah.
Even though they are very family orientated I watched her struggle to make ends meet because they had to tithe 10% of whatever her husband made and that is a lot of money over the years. She said they would give it to her if she needed it but at least in Catholic church you can give or not give and they dont' say your not a Catholic in good standing if you don't give every month or even all year. That is between you and God not you and the local bishop like it is with the mormons.
So they got a lot of strict rules and I really felt sorry for her because she just never seemed very happy with her lot in life.

Mormons have an additional religious text - the book of mormon. they believe it was revealed to Joseph Smith and that Mississippi has religious significance.
among their beliefs that are different from catholocism - mormons believe in the celestial kingdom as the highest level of heaven. they think the only way women can get there is to be married to a virtuous mormon man, thus polygamy has been prevelant in mormonism due to the fact there are more women than men. also, mormons wear a different type of underwear called "garments". i'm not sure the religious significance other than their outerwear must cover the garments, therefore they dress modestly. also there has been a lot of racism in mormonism. only recently did they revise the book of mormon in order to allow black people to have leadership positions in the temple.
mormonism is based on christianity and they do believe jesus is their personal savior.

Mormonism is another form of Protestantism that was born of the post-revolutionary period in the US, as another break from Anglicanism and Puritanism. It professes to have been founded by a young prophet, has additional canonical text, and teaches that it is the restored true church of christ.
Like Catholicism, it is male dominated and and controlled from top to bottom. The bottom clergical levels are always lay clergy, meaning they have jobs outside being a bishop (priest). It is dissimilar to catholicism in that young men are ordained to a 'priesthood' at age 12.
Internal doctrinal differences are decidedly different at nearly every level, and would take pages to explain here, and there is no simple summary. I suggest reading a few books on the subject, and especially on Joseph Smith to understand the social environment that gave birth to this movement.

I used to be Roman Catholic myself. But Mormon and Catholicism are VERY DIFFERENT!!!
Mormons believe a prophet named Joseph Smith found these Golden Tablets in New York a long time ago and they talked about the church that Jesus established in America. Which is bogus because Jesus established only one while he was on Earth and that was in Jerusalem. But they strive for god-hood. They don't believe in confession, they don't believe in purgatory, they are not polygamists like everyone says.
there is a pretty interesting video on youtube...go there and type in Mormonism and there will be a cartoon. click and watch it. its very informative!!! we watched it at debate camp like everyday for laughs lol
God Bless

Buy Walter Martin's book, The Kingdom Of The Cults. It is very thorough and informative. Another good book is Religions of America by Leo Rosten. Every denomenation is fully explained in that book.
The biggest difference between Roman Catholics and Mormons is that Mormons do not acknowledge the deity of Christ. Catholics do.
Good luck.

Hi! I was Catholic my entire life, I also attended a school (7th grade to 11th grade in the Dominican Republic) that was not entirely Catholic, but the name of the school was Catholic and religion education was required. At the age of 17 (last year) after a long time of not attending Catholic church but still considering myself a Catholic, I started to meet with the Mormon missionaries weekly. I was learning a lot from them, but sadly I found some wrong sources about the LDS church that really confused me. I baptized in the Mormon church in February this year.
Catholics believe in the trinity, we don't. We believe that God is the father, Jesus is the son and the Holy Ghost is like this feeling that God works thorough. We set them as 3 different characters. Like Catholics do, we believe in Sabbath day and that day is Sunday but we have a lot of respect for that day and don't shop or use that day for entertaiment, it's a day for the Lord entirely, we do spend time with our family, read scriptures, sometimes attend church activities after church in the morning, etc.. I know of people who don't even watch TV that day. The first Sunday of the month is fasting Sunday, we all fast on that day.
The Catholic mass takes like 1 hour, ours take 3 hours. In my branch the order goes like this: 1st, woman goes to Relief Society (18+ woman) and men go to Priesthood. 2nd, Sunday class [in my branch there are 2 classes, one for the new members and investigators and one for the long time members], 3rd we all meet in Sacramental. We eat the bread and drink the water in there, we hear some discourses and what is happening in the stake and the ward. We worship God and Jesus.
We use the Bible and use the Book of Mormon too which supports the Bible.
We don't drink wine, not even in church while in sacramental, since we follow the Word of Wisdom which consist that your body is your temple and the temple of the Holy Spirit so you won't take anything that would harm it or lead you to an addiction, this includes hot drinks (tea and coffee), wine, any alcoholic beverage, some meats, tobacco and illegal drugs.
Catholics have the Pope, we respect the Pope but we also have an alive prophet named Gordon B. Hinkley (he's such a sweetheart).
Every Sunday in church in each of the 3 classes we talk about a different topic, so it's always different. For example, one day (one class), we talk about Ressurection, another day we talk about Forgiveness, another day about Jesus' miracles, another day (or class) about Faith, etc... so it always varies, will never stuck up in the same.
A Catholic wedding is until death set you appart - ours is for eternities (families too)
I haven't heard of any Mormon elementary/middle or high school, like Catholics have but there is Brigham Young University. That university belongs to the LDS church and it's a great school. The main campus is in Provo, Utah and it has like 30,000 students I think so it's huge. It has two more campuses, one in Idaho and one in Hawaii. There are classes called seminary that are for high school students and the Institute classes that are for college students and other singles between the ages of 18-30. These classes are held in some church buildings and other schools sometimes. The Institute classes count you as credit classes in BYU.
There are many misunderstandings about the Mormon church here in YA and many people don't like us and don't understand our beliefs so they bash us and say countless things about us. For more information you should go to http://www.mormon.org and http://www.lds.org It would be great if you have missionaries visit you, here you can request the visits: http://mormon.org/mormonorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=57b29c3a68a50110VgnVCM1000003a94610aRCRD&locale=0
I hope this helps, email me if you have more questions about the differences between the 2 churches ^_^

I don't know much about the Mormon religion... but from what i do know... they use a different Bible... and have rules against dating under the age of 16 (i think)... they emphasize modesty in dress... and that's about all i know. But I've had plenty of Mormon friends and all of them are really nice and down to earth.
