I was told that there is a place in the netherlands where I can ride a train to go skiing and then ski back and it will take all day as you stop at villages along the way. I would like to know if anyone can give me a link or a name to research this further

It would take all day in the Netherlands because you would be on XC skis. I doubt there is a hillock in the Netherlands that would give you more than an 87 second long run on alpine gear.

This might be a tall order given global warming. There are probably some long trails that would fill the bill but I would guess you'd need to take the skis off a number of times in order to cross roads.

I think in Switzerland, the Jungfrau region has a vast train system. It may not be exactly what you are looking for but close.
