If that's your culture, then you may follow it. But listen to your heart. It will lead you to your happiness...

In circumstances such as this, there is very little that you can say or do to prevent it.
Just go with the flow and when the time comes that is the right time to make your move, take off and never ever return to see anyone ever again, cause if you do you will be on their **** list and that is not to healthy for you, friend.

You know, there are some advantages to this.
1) You go into the marrage without your head filled with fluff.
2) You go into the marrage knowing that you are supposed to make it work whatever your personal feelings may be.
For any marrage to work the two partners must get past their own personal feelings sooner or later or the marrage will die.
Love is a decision not a feeling.

it would take all the pressure of dating off, trying to impress someone, acting like someone you really arent to impress someone else, etc....I don't believe in betrothal the way you are stating it, but courtship, now that is another matter entirely.

I don't think I'd have a problem with that. It would have made things a lot simpler for me. And as for love, I believe you could love anybody, you just have to work at it like any relationship

I would thank then for making certain that I didn't have to be alone. And for guaranteing I would not have to suffer through wondering and waiting for sommeone to marry. Wish my family HAD loved me enough to do that.

I would have said thank you for caring about my purity and counted myself more fortunate than Saint Augustine who later lamented that his parents hadn't cared for his spiritual well-being as he was growing up but only saw to it that he got an education.

I would suggest you confront your parents directly and tell them that you simply refuse to marry someone you don't love!

well historical romances really romanticize this idea, with the two falling in love anyway.
but in this day and age, we'd most likely be so incompatible...I'd kill myself from misery.
I couldn't marry someone I didn't love or at least feel attracted to.

I would be upset but I would probably learn to work with it as it would make life so much less complicated.
