- especially if you are 16 and starting to learn to drive, having a cell with you while driving is a very good idea, not for talking on while driving, but for using should you have an accident.

Pre paid is a good idea. You can even get one that takes pictures. I have a 14 and 18 year old that have ran there phone bills as high as 600.00 so pre paid is the safe way to go. As for reason to just beable to keep in touch with dear ole dad should be enough, not just friends and for emergency. Good Luck christmas is just around the corner this would be a great gift idea.

Mad_hillbilly has some good suggestions. My daughter is 10 and has her own cell phone. My husband actually likes it because we can keep track of who she is talking to by looking at the phone bill. At your age you are probably starting to go out a lot and I think the fact that your dad would be able to get in touch with you whenever he wants would appeal to him. Just remind him that text messages and phone calls can be tracked. Parents usually worry more about who there kids are talking to rather than how much they are talking. Look up some good phone package deals online and show him that it won't cost him too much. (Another thing that us parents worry about.) Good Luck!

Nobody NEEDS a cellphone - they are debilitating. When your dad was your age - he survived very nicely without one - just as *I* did.. and so will you.

Its expensive.. a waste of TIME.. and a sure fire way to get YOU into trouble - I can't find one teenager who hasnt' gotten themselves into a heap of trouble with one - either excessive use - or sneaking around planning untoward behaviour with others.. or even quite simply - passing around information that shouldn't be passed around.

You're much better off without it and I have to agree with your dad - he's smart - and he's protective - nurture that!

you are 16. until he feels like you need a cell phone just hang it up.
or you could work and get you a track phone. and you pay for your minutes instead of your dad.

easy wat i did was joined a lot of clubs n told my parents i would need a cellophone in order to tell them to pick me up (of course if u dont hav a cell u obviously dont hav a car right??)

dis would work n also dont quit da clubs right after u get ur cell cuz den u would hav to say "isn't is tiring 4 u 2 come pick me up every day?? i would need a car so it would be easier on u guys." trust me it works, i have both a cell and a Mustang GT 2008 and im only 15. my parents got me da car so wen i turned 16 n get my license they would get me of their back and lessen the cell bill. quite easy huh??
