since they don't believe in drinking coffee? Assuming they don't actually drink it themselves of course, but would they consider it against their religion to make coffee for other people?
Would Christians consider it against their religion to work in a smoke shop or liquor store?

Beleive it or not, I had a christian friend who (he) drove a beer truck, and delivered the beer and would pray that the beer sales would go down and they did. I think he lost his job, I am not sure, I can't remember the eneding to the story, but, it was pretty funny that he worked for a company and he was christian and was praying against the beer company and they couldn't sell any beer because of his prayers.

Maybe Christians work at liquor stores so they can find the best wine to drink. Or at least use that as a cover.

The problem w/ starbucks is not the coffee it the the fact they are everywhere. The have one every other block. Urgh i can't stand them. Liquor stores however should be every other block.

But then again a remember my father taking me into smoke filled bars and buying me soda and letting me play darts and pool, so i love bars.

Mormons feel that drinking coffee is harmful to your health. They feel that they are under commandment to not drink coffee, but they don't feel that other people are necessarily under the same commandment. If someone knew that doing a certain thing was bad for his health, then doing that thing would, for him, be a sin. But not necessarily a sin for someone else.

Now, is it against the Mormon religion to hand out drinks that you know are harmful to those who drink it? Well, no one is going to tell you that you can't do that. They aren't going to say that our religion forbids it. But, it does seem a little odd. Not a good idea. If one of my children had to work at Starbucks or else starve I'd say he should work there, but I would pray that he would find another job soon.

I believe Brigham Young was opposed to selling liquor, and told people that they shouldn't sell it.

Some businesses are owned by Mormons that permit or sell liquor, coffee, and tobacco. Sometimes we can't run a hotel without permitting it, as customers demand it. We don't want to make it impossible for people to ruin their health who insist on it, but we don't want to make it easy, either.

So, long answer to no, it isn't against their religion.

I'm pretty sure that I read historical accounts of Brigham Young selling alcohol in his stores.. And I think alcohol trumps coffee.

My parents, however, wouldn't walk into a (you name it) let alone work there...

- Liquor store
- Coffee Shop
- Adult Book Store
- Bar/Tavern

etc..
