"Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living. We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount." - Bradly, General Omar N.

"Religions that teach brotherly love have been used as an excuse for persecution, and our profoundest scientific insight is made into a means of mass destruction." - Bertrand Russell

Which is of the greatest risk to mankind, religion, technology, or mankind itself?

Hi Foxtrot. To which "peace church" are you referring to, the Church of the Brethren, the Mennonites, the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Amish, Hutterites, the Anabaptist tradition, Doukhobors, Molokans, Bruderhof Communities, Schwenkfelders, Moravians, Shakers and even some groups within the Pentecostal movement?

Hi again Foxtrot. I checked out your Q&A and noticed that you are a Jehovah's witness (I was hoping you were a Quaker, LOL). Hey dude, I'll tell you what, if I were able to control the information to any given human being on the planet, I would be able to convince them that they were the, "one religion [that] was severely persecuted for not heeding the call of the nations they lived in, to take up arms, and kill their brothers, in the nations fighting their wars....But, I reiterate, I know of one that refused." (your words not mine)

If I controlled the information enough to that person, I would also be able to convince them that I was an alien from outer space.

I'm glad to see you're at least here in R&S. Just please try to expand your reading a little bit more. LOL.

Thanks for your answer.

Mankind has some serious issues. We cannot fix the problems we helped create. Secular Humanism hasn't, doesn't and won't work.

Ahhh. but not all religions, are willing to kill other humans in the name of their god.
In the last century, one religion was severely persecuted for not heeding the call of the nations they lived in, to take up arms, and kill their brothers, in the nations fighting their wars.
Most religions, stood by their respective governments, and sent their men to die in war, killing each other.
But, I reiterate, I know of one that refused.

A few more quotes in response, and a quip. The greatest threat to mankind? Women.

Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted. - Martin Luther King Jr.

A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. - Albert Einstein

Men are cruel, but Man is kind. - Rabindranath Tagore

“The only way to comprehend what mathematicians mean by Infinity is to contemplate the extent of human stupidity.” - Voltaire

I think mankind itself is the biggest threat. Religion and technology are tools which mankind can use for good or bad. When used for bad, they can each kill thousands and thousands.

Imperfect mankind mixing politics with religion. We have so much 'knowledge' and so little 'wisdom' that we have practically destroyed our planet in 100 short years!

Mankind, as the originator of religion and technology, is the greatest threat.

Mankind is also the only hope.
