I just got contact lenses. This morning it took me nearly an hour to put both of them on. And right now, I want to take them off. But, every time that I attempt to take them off I flinch and freak out. I don't understand how I'm supposed to take them out. Or how to calm my nerves. It was easier at the optometrist!

You don't say whether these are soft or gas-permeable lenses but since the majority of the public wear soft, I will post this for them. Please refer to these sites:
http://www.us.cibavision.com/for_your_eyes/insert_remove.shtml
http://www.1-save-on-lens.com/eyecare1.htm
http://www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/contact-lens-tips.htm#remove (this covers both)

Remember to be calm. Take some deep breaths. Remind yourself that you CAN do this...you did it in the office. You are just nervous because this is new to you and you don't have the office staff there to guide you. You can do this! I have faith in you.

Before you know it, you will be a pro at this.

Same thing happened to me hunny!
I freaked out when it came to taking them out.

What you should do is wash your hands, make sure they're rinsed properly & dry them VERY WELL so that they're completely dry.

Then go infront of a mirror and move the lense to the side of your eye, keeping you eye focused in front of you, so the lens will squash up at the side, they pinch it off gently.. and ta da!

It gets easier the more you do it, and after you manage for the first time it will be much easier.

Good luck xxx

I have worn contact lenses for years. It is just like anything else, practice, practice, practice. When you first start out you want to slide the lens down and then you can pinch it a little bit with your index finger and thumb and take it out. After awhile this will become second nature to you. When you have experienced this for awhile you will be able to look straight ahead and pinch it right off in the center of your eyeball. It's easy!!!! Good luck!!
