weird characters. Is there a way to see if I accidentally activated something? What is the correct way to reinstate factory defaults? Any help would be appreciated!

I believe the reason I'm seeing those strange characters is because somehow my Formating in word got screwed up. The font's I see are from the "normal" format for selected text. Is there a way I can just default back to the clear formatting (and have it stay) and not worry about any of these odd symbols? MUCH OBLIGED FOR ANY HELP!

Use Windows Explorer and find one of the .doc files that has the crazy characters in it.

RIGHT click on the file and choose "Open with..."

The choose WordPAD to open it.

If the characters are still weird, then it probably is a font issue. Select all the text then go to the toolbar and change the font to Arial.

If this fixes it then save and close the document.

Go to Word and open the newly saved file. It should be okay.

All other files, just change the font in Word. Using WordPAD was just a way to make sure there was not a problem with Word.

If this does not fix your problem and the characters are again crazy in Word, uninstall and reinstall Word. Or choose the Change button in Add/Remove programs and in the installation dialog select "Repair".

send all your work you have done with Microsoft word to your email box to save it , check your email to make sure it got there .
then delete the program and reinstall. I did it and highly recommend it .
