In Psalm 23, the bible states the following:

"Yea, though I walk through the vally of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art wth me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

What do you suppose this mean, because I am completely lost for words on this.

If anyone here knows the answer to this, it would be very kind of you to explain this to me, thanks.

He is the Shepherd. WE are His people and the sheep of His pasture! His rod and staff are what shephers use to protect their sheep from wild creatures that would eat them!

God bless!

The valley of the shadow of death refers to harsh times here on earth!

The Psalm is pretty straight forward. It asks G-d's comfort and guidance to meet the normal difficulties we all face in life. The rod and staff refer to the tools used by shepard's to guide their flocks so that the flocks don't stray. If you have been to Israel, you will find that the country side is streaked with dry washes called wadis that are dry through out the year except during the rainy seasons when they can suddenly and unexpectedly fill with wildly running water from a cloud-burst miles away, drowning everything in its path.

All of the Patriarches of Judaism, Avraham [Abraham], Yitzchok [Issac], Yaakov [Jacob] and Moshe Rabbeneu [Moses Our Teacher] were shepard's at some time in their careers. Being a shepard is excellent training for being self reliant, being spiritual and being protective.

It means that even though we face the most horrible situation, even death, we know that God is with us so everything will be OK. His rod is a metaphor for the ways in which God chastens, disciplines and perfects us and His staff is a metpahor for the way He shepherds us along the road to eternal life (like a sheepherders staff).

We are in the valley of the shadow of death. Our bodies are going to give out and return to the earth.

We don't have to fear the evil of satan, and death, Jesus is the great Shepard. His rod, keeps away the wolves and other predators. Sheep know that their Shepard will get them out of stony places, with that crook on the end of the rod.

This verse explains that as we go through hard times and trials in life, we should not be fearful because God is with us always. He is there in the darkest valley's of our lives, and his rod and staff offers protection which brings comfort to our souls.

Death casts a frightening shadow over us because we are entirely helpless in its presence. We can struggle with other enemies - pain, suffering, disease, injury - but strength and courage cannot overcome death. It has the final word. Only one person can walk with us through death's dark valley and bring us safely to the other side - the God of life, our shepherd. Because life is uncertain, we should follow this shepherd who offers us eternal comfort.

When you walk through the valley of shadow and death means that there will be hard times but fear not because the Lord is with you. His love protects us because we are one of his, just like the sheep belong to the sheperd and he protects them Jesus protects us. Life is full of ups and downs, just because we are christians doesn't mean that we don't go through difficult times. In fact i think sometimes we go through more because satan doesn't have us and he works harder on the saved. But the Lord says don't be afraid because I will never leave you and I'll protect you.

When this person walks through something scary or a dangerous place, the first thing that comes up is fear. But this person does not fear because he has God with him. And God will comfort him. God will always be with you. GOD BLESS EVERYONE!!
