It could be worms or even an allergy. Anyway a vet trip would be in order. Evita

No, it's not a sign of worms but chances are he needs his anal glands excreted again. If he is on a food with high amounts of fillers it could cause the anal glands to fill more quickly. Consider a better quality food. This will also reduce the amount of feces produced by the dog because he will be taking in more nutrients.

Heart worm prevention doesn't prevent tapeworms. Tapeworms can cause him to have an itchy butt. Dogs get tapeworms from eating fleas and eating rodents. This is going to sound gross, but check around your dog's butt for little worms that look like little pieces of rice. And check his stool for them too. You don't have to disect it, you should be able to see them pretty easily. If you don't see any you can take a stool sample in to your veterinarian so they can check for other types of intestinal parasites. Or it could also be that his anal glands have filled up again. Good Luck with your dog. I'm sorry my answer was gross.

Sometimes a dog's anal glands will fill up quickly again after being expressed. Or sometimes it can be a sign of worms. Call your vet, and if you go in bring a stool sample so they can test for worms. I know you have a male dog, but my female dog does it sometimes when her private areas need to be cleaned(she has an odd anatomy).

Maybe it filled up again or you dog just may have an itchy butt. Maybe when they were emptied it irritated the gland causing discomfort. I met a samoyed that the gland burst open inside the rectum.

It could be a sign of tapeworms, worms that live in the intestines. He may feel one coming out and he is trying to rid himself of it. If the behavior continues I would consider talking to a vet.

Your dog may need to have the anal glands expressed. It sounds disgusting, but I am not making this stuff up!

well since heart worm medicine only deals with heart worms, it's very likely he has some other type of worms, Take him to the vet, specially if you see any worms in his Bowl movements ( they're normally white)
