I'm 25 years old, have a BA in Communications with two minors, Eagle Scout, and have been working since junior year in High School.
I was fired from my previous job three months ago (Wasn't my fault and I was awarded unemployment). Now I don't know what to do. I can't even get jobs that don't require a degree and experience. And when I actually do land an interview, I always manage to blow it. Temp agencies are no help, I sign up but they can't find me anything. I feel like I can't do what I want because there's always someone on the other side saying "You're too stupid for this job".
Anyways, I just need some advice on what to do.
(BTW...I don't qualify for the military)

Hello killa0038:
Have you thought about a career as a professional Scouter? They aren't listed on the Forbes 500, but they all enjoy their jobs. You will be required to move around a bit. The executive mainly seeks out donors for the endowment, and recruits boys into the movement.
Speaking of looking for donors, look into professional fund raising. You'd be surprised how much professional beggars get. Think of panhandling where the check dropped into the hat is 1mil. A 6% cut of that check is pretty good.
You may have to look outside your field and/or your current community to find a job. If you are single, moving isn't that difficult. If you have a family, can be more difficult.
Don't be down on yourself for the job loss...it happens. How did you find that job in the first place?
DO NOT fall for the home-based business crap. No one but the person on the top of the pyramid earns any money at these things. You will lose two things: all your savings, and all your friends. If you have to assume the risk, it is a bad deal, turn and run away.
Don't go to headhunters; they don't have any better leads on jobs than you do. Never pay someone for a job.
Go to your community college and take an interest survey. It may cost a few bucks, or be free, but it will tell you what you are interested in. If you are close to your alma matter, go to them; they owe you after you've given them a quarter mil to say you have a BA. They may have an alumni job board. Were you in a frat or other club? call those guys, tell them you're looking. Tell everyone you're looking. Go on interviews, even if it is not in your field. It may not be as glamorous as communications, but it beats living out of your car.
I was a graphic designer for 15 years, then got cut one day. Out of work for two years, now I do HVAC maintenance & repair. Won't die a millionaire, but am able to feed my family, and will be able to work until they nail my coffin shut.
Keep yer nose to the grindstone and yer shoulder to the wheel.
Best of luck.

Sorry about your troubles. I'm in the same boat. 15 FT yrs. of graphic design and then I got laid off. I've had one interview in person and 2 telephone interviews the past 6 mos. The employers tell me they get over 1000 applications for a listing. 3000 graphic designers out of work and only 3 jobs a month tops, for everyone. I'm still on EI and have money in the bank. I'd like something for Xmas though. I might have to look for secretrarial, retail or work in a DVD rental place. Really discouraged too.

It's tough out there! There are always jobs in sales, if you like that sort of thing.
Don't forget the resources of your college career services office. They should have job listings you can check out, even though you are no longer a student.
What about substitute teaching until you find something? Most states will allow you to sub if you have a 4-year-degree. It's flexible and will allow you time off for interviews. You may even decide you like teaching!
Good luck!

If you have a degree in communications, you should have no problem nailing an interview. Maybe you're trying too hard and thats whats killing you. My advice is to ease up and go in with the attitude that you don't care either way. As long as you have that in mind, you should be far more relaxed and therefore more successful.

Try Craig's list. I got my first job from that website. Actually, the pay may not be as much as you may expect, but you will definitely get the much needed experience which will land you in a better job in a couple of months.
Good luck

Yeah, I'm finding more and more people that were in the same position as you are in. They have started their own home based business's. Then they quickly learned that they make more money then they did in a normal career. If you'd like information on what they are doing, I can give you some web sites and contact information if you'd like! Email me.
Best of luck!

Have you ever thought about starting your own business? I have been involved with a 15 yr old company for a while now & I am my own boss. I do most of my business online, but we have a proven system that teaches you how to work both on & off the internet. No lotions, potions or pills to buy either. If you want more info, email me at jeff@jjteam.com & I can give you my website to check it out. You just have to be teachable & coachable. Does that sound like you? Let me know.
