John 10:4
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice
Christ uses a parable to explain the relationship that a Shepard and his sheep have. He follows this up with John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
His sheep know His voice, and His message as truth and safety.

To understand this, it is necessary to know the situation of shepherds in Jesus' time.
The sheep DID know their own shepherd's voice. When the sheep were grazing, sometimes two flocks would mix. the shepherds would socialise.
When they parted, they called their sheep and each flock would follow its OWN SHEPHERD. oN THE BASIS OF HEARING THE SHEPHERD CALL.
When we apply this to todays, Jesus' true followers will 'hear his voice'...OBEY...his directions exactly. And not add their own philosophies to their worship.
The trinity concept is an added philosophy.

To understand this, you need to look into the life of a Shepard. Doing a internet search on this will inform you of what is meant by "knowing my voice".

As several have responded, with the verse you asked about, I would suggest to you to study the 23rd Psalm. If you want to know more about shepards, and relationship with Jesus, it is a great study.
Most know it as a famous passage, for church and funerals, and times of sorrow.
But it is an amazing promise of Jesus and how he will meet our needs.
