There are a lot of good reasons but could we suggest alternatives-can we keep on saying no.The community I live in has a significant carbon footprint.A lot of energy is being devoted to prevent a wind farm being built. What are the alternatives?eg Is there a decline in air travel as we become aware of consequences on environment? How can you get people to care enough to change?Saying no is too easy.If you're part of the problem you have a responsibility to be part of the solution.WE have to do something.

I think this comes about from the introduction of the national grid. It enables the nimbyism you talk about. If all communities or regions were responsible for their own needs in terms of power, waste management, and water supply I'll bet you they change their tunes.

Why would you want to do that?...at first i thought you were complaining, then i read your question, and it seems there is no question really being asked.

Everyone has to take some responsibility, but i believe its more about reducing energy comsumption, and making things more efficient, that way we can reduce our energy load, rather than maintaining current levels and finding more ways to pay for it, in terms of turbines, hydro etc.

I also think the idea of carbon footprinting, has become too political, and we are somehow missing the point. We are carbon based lifeforms, we live in a carbon based environment, of course we are going to have a carbon footprint!...research has shown that CO2 is rising because of global warming, not the other way around. therefore, the causes of global warming are less obvious. Perhaps its just a natural cycle the earth goes through......people say that Carbon levels are the same now as when the dinosaurs were alive.....how many T-Rex's did you see flying to marbella for their holidays, and how many of them drove 4x4's.......

The "alternative" that all the NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) people will eventually impose on the country will be either brownouts/blackouts or increased building of coal burning plants. If your area can physically support wind farms (reasonably steady breezes) and also has a "significant carbon footprint" either you support the units (or other replacement energy sources in your neighborhood, or you resign yourself to the coming shortages AND yield up any right to complain.

I dont know how true it is but a friend looked into it and said that if everyhouse hild was give one energy saving lightbulb that would save more energy than the windfarms.Or rather what it costs to make the concrete to support the turbines.
