I have a Sony DVD Player model DVP-NS725P. It was a pretty expensive player and I thought it would last me years. Well, a couple of months ago, I put in a DVD and it seemed like it was reading it, but the whole DVD player just shut off. I got so frustrated with it after trying to clean it and such that I just gave up and bought a new cheap DVD player. Now I'm just trying to figure out what's wrong with it, to see if maybe I could fix it, since I just don't wanna throw an expensive DVD player out. Does anyone have any idea of any possible solutions for me? I've had it unplugged for months now, so it can't be the power.

Sounds like there's a fault condition that's causing it to shut down or go into protect mode. I don't know how much you paid for it, but chances are it will be more expensive to repair then to replace with a decent $99 unit. Sony replacement parts are real expensive and replacing the laser unit or main board with labor would probably cost more then the unit itself!

More than likely the power supply has gone bad. Does this sound about right ? When you first turn the unit on there is no problem it operartes correctly. Then, after it sits turned on for a while and heats up the unit shuts down. Does that sound right ? You might want to make sure that there is clearance all the way around the Dvd player just to be sure that enough air is circulating through and around it. If your power supply has gone bad, unless you know what your doing have a professional fix it. It should be a real cheap fix my guess about 75$. Hope this helps
