Why do many religions say they're "the only path."? Isn't that kind of self-centered.?

Jesus was a bit self-centered. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. NO man cometh unto the Father BUT BY ME."
When you guys see us as Christians, you forget, we didn't write the book.
God doesn't want forced worship or affection, that's why He created humans. We have this sin problem and He's the only cure. That cure should make us want to praise Him with all we've got. We shouldn't have to be forced.

So if I sacrafice babies by burning them in a fire, or am a cerial killer because thats my idea of worshiping God thats ok? Clearly it isn't. There are proper ways to worship God, and the fact that he is detailed and particular in the Old Testament is proof of that. He cares about the details, even if those details have changed with the coming of the Christ.

I agree that is a step in the right direction;freedom of thought .
Now a step further and to show the same respect for those who prefer to not worship a deity but live a good life as well.

would you agree then that to pass laws that would limit religious freedoms would conflict with this statement.
say Preacher A has no problem with homosexual marriage, and wishes to preform the ceramony for his congregation. he should have the right to do so should he not?
as an example.
there are several laws that constrain religious freedoms in this country. people just do not see them untill they run afoul of them

I deifnitely agree. I think that people should be able to freely practice their own beliefs. I'm Catholic and I disagree with many of the teachings. Especially the one where they say that if you are not Catholic and don't believe in God (the Catholic version of it) that you will go to hell. It is just absurd...

There is a right and a wrong to this subject. Its not containment by force its containment by choice. You do not have to do anything you do not what to do. But if you CHOOSE to worship god you otta do it the way he wants you to and not to your inclination at all.

ahem to that, many people say only theirs is the correct god, but that just offends alot of people, for all they know, they might be worshipping the same god and killing each other for their stupidity...who goes to heaven now?
