I am not certain there is a requirement, or at least not one that is enforced. If you are in bad shape, they will still gladly send you to boot camp where you will shape up or ship out.

As long as you are healthy and not obese, the Military will take a chance on you. Well, most of them. The Air Force is actually the toughest to get into, so they probably do have minimums you need to be able to do before joining. But the Navy? all they care about is if you can walk and all your limbs work...

Visit Navy.com or Airforce.com, chat with a recruiter. Just take what recruiters say with a grain of salt. Think of them as used car salesman and be wary of them the same way. Not to say all are bad, but most will do whatever it takes to get someone to boot camp, including decieving and/or lying to recruits.

We had a guy in boot camp that was mentally retarded...I kid you not one bit. Our Company Commander washed him out, but I just kept thinking that some recruiter used this kid and all of us in order to get a number...I am certain this was an extreme case, but just saying be careful.

I can't remember the exact requirements, but there are height and weight limits.

As far a physical tests, there was a lift test for the Army and Air Force back in the 1980s.

As far as doing a minimum number of pushups and situps, that physical test is taken several times while in boot camp.
Recruits must pass those physical tests in order to graduate.

You have to be big and strong and willing to turn yourself into cannon fodder.
