The good book tells us that we should forgive those that ask for it, and we will be given forgiveness if we ask for it. However, what if someone does us wrong and they do not ask for forgiveness? Should we still forgive them even if they do not acknowledge they have done wrong? Or should be only forgive others when asked for forgiveness?

Don't confuse forgiveness with reconciliation. Forgiveness means to send the offense away from your mind. It only takes one person to forgive, but it takes two to be reconciled.

If you hold someone in unforgiveness it's like drinking some poison and hoping that the other person is going to die. Jesus said that if we don't forgive others their trespasses then neither will our Heavenly Father forgive us our trespasses (Mat 6:15).

The forgiving is not about them, it is about you.
You must realize by now that holding grudges and being mad all the time about something in the past hurts you much more than it hurts somebody you think offended you. They have likely moved on and are happily living their life, blissfully unaware of how you are causing yourself hypertension, liver, stomach or heart problems.
To forgive does not mean to forget. Accept the lesson, then move on.

Scripture tells us, who are the church the body of Christ today, to forgive others as Christ has forgiven us.

Were you ASKING for forgiveness when HE died for all your sins over two thousand years ago? NO...He died for you while you were yet a sinner and not even born yet.

So....if you are to forgive as God has already forgiven YOU...would you need someone to ask you? Is that what forgives a person, asking?

NOPE...we were forgiven two thousand years ago WITHOUT asking. It is what God did, not what WE do that affords us the forgiveness we HAVE and the forgiveness we give to others.

Joseph,
When we hold a grudge and do not have forgiveness in our hearts then we have a difficult time with our anger. It becomes a stumbling block that stands between us and GOD. We should be forgiving as much as possible. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,

Forgive everyone. You have probably harmed others without remembering, and would be grateful to know that they forgive you, without your asking.
Remember the Golden Rule.

Forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean you are face to face with the person stating the words you forgive them.

It can mean letting the anger go. It doesn't mean you have to trust them again or allow them to hurt you again. It just means letting the anger go.

That's a useful tip for anyone wether they are believers or not.

Forgive everyone who wrongs you. Everyone for any reason, even if they kill your mother, forgive them. I know it can be difficult but you can do it.
