I have been trying forever. I become extremely nervous. I have had panic attacks.

Once upon a time, I was accused of (but not terminated for, no grounds) sexual harassment. It has been obsessing me since. Whenever I talk to any women at work, I become very paranoid and nervous. I can't make the thoughts stop. I have been punishing myself for 10 years so far.

You shouldn't be so afraid. I mean women are just that WOMEN! Nothing more. You can talk to us and you can joke with us. While at work you have to think befor you talk. Ask yourself this question " Would I say or act this way if my boss was here?" if the answer is no the don't do or say whatever it was that you wanted to do or say!

As far as the panic attacks, it's only occuring becasue you have have had a tramatic experience. If you start asking that question you will find that it is not that hard to interact with other people.

Good Luck

I'm sorry you feel so horrid around women, but remember, everybody's human. Even if you'd actually harassed your coworker, I'd say this: move on. You just mentioned why you get nervous, but I still don't know your reasons for being shy. You can get into conversations with anybody you want to. Even if (and that's one huge IF) you were accused again, you'd know in your heart that you were innocent. Don't walk on eggshells around everybody, nobody is benefitting from that, especially yourself. Step out of your comfort zone. Get to know females over the internet first if you want to kind of stay back in the shadows for a while. You could try sitting in a group at lunch and just don't say anything for a while. Then, slowly, start talking again. I know you can master your fear, but you have to put your mind to it first.

You sound like a smart person, so I suggest you seek counselling and if you have panic attacks or anxiety there is medication out there that can help you. But first go to a therapist and discuss these issues with her/him. You are not a lone. There are many out there that can help you. Don't keep suffering this way, go get help.
