that depends on where your going. You can go from anywhere in the US to anywhere in the US (and US territories) with out a passport. All you need is a valid ticket and a drivers license

If your flying international, then you need an unexpired passport. No exceptions.

You can travel anywhere within the boundries of the country with a valid photo ID. Going outside the US for example you would need a passport and it will take about 6 weeks to get one.

not really sure what your question means, if you mean can you move around in the plane without a passport, well yes, where you sit in the plane is based on what kind of ticket you bought. if you mean can you leave your country without a passport, well most likely not. there are very few countries that let you travel between them without a passport. you should check with the consuls office of the country you want to visit to see what you need for documentation to get in and out of their country and check with your own to see what you need to get back in to your home country, enjoy your trip

If you are flying internationally then your not getting your barding pass from the front desk.
Then without a passport and boarding pass, you can't get past security.
If flying nationally all you need is you I.D

I believe you can get a document to show you have applied.
But you need one to cross international borders.
