I had a dog show up at my house this morning, he is very well trained and wont leave the yard. We brought him in out of the heat and fed him. I have contacted all the shelters and vet clinics, placed and add with the local radio station, contacted the local law enforment agencies, and placed an email to the local campground dnr agent. If anyone knows anything else i can do to try to find the owners please let me know. Thankyou.

Does he look like a purebred? Contact the local breed club for that breed---someone may know him and if he was lost during a vacation then the breed club may have heard of it.

I know if a dog is lost for my breed the notice gets posted on the national message boards and internet forums... I can read about a missing dog a thousand miles away!

Google the breed name and find the national club to get to the local clubs....

If he is super well-trained, contact local obedience clubs (www.akc.org search for clubs or look for local obedience groups in your area) and see if they have heard of him.

Here is a website for lost dogs---you can post a found dog for free:

I know you had him scanned for a chip---did they make sure the chip hadn't migrated? Did they look for a tattoo?

THANK YOU and BLESS YOU for working so hard to reunite this dog with his family!

You could post ads on Craigslist.com and your local newspapers. Some people even post ads on myspace.com (under the classified area)

If the dog is well trained and groomed I wouldn't be surprised if he has a ear chip. They are fairly inexpensive to get for your animals so many owners do so. You should call the local shelter and ask to have the dog scanned to see if he does have the chip.

Does he have any tags? Some dogs only have their 'rabies' tags. Every dog has to have a rabies shot, and usually the sheriff department corresponds that. You could call the Sheriffs department and ask if they have record of the dogs tag number.

You could make flyer's and post them at grocery stores, malls, movie theaters, gyms, schools/colleges... any place in your area.

Is there a "dog park" in your area? Take him there and ask some of the other pet owners if they reconize him.

Good luck!

You didn't say if the dog has vaccination tags, I will assume it does not. You've about covered the things to do. The shelters are probably the best as most owners of lost pets contact animal control or humane society. Just wait or give him to the best shelter.

Seems like you did all you can, now all you can do is wait it out to see if someone calls. I am sure since he obviously sounds like he was well trained ect someone is going to be missing him and contact the shelters ect to locate him. Does the dog have a tattoo or can the shelter check for a microchip?

Bring him to a vet clinic or shelter and ask them to check him for a microchip. If he has one, they may be able to trace his owners. Also, does he have any tags at all? Some vet clinics keep records of rabies tag numbers so the pet can be identified and returned to it's owner.

Have you taken it to a vet or shelter to scan for a chip?
Most dogs nowdays have a chip that will provide the owners info. Any vet or shelter has a scanner and will do it free of charge.

Post fliers in nearby stores ( a lot more than you think will let you), nearby parks, light poles, etc.

Take him to a nearby vet and have him scanned to see if he is micro chipped. If he is, you have a very good chance of finding the owner. There is usually no charge for this.

Good luck! Poor dog.

Most newspapers will let you place a found pet ad free. You can also take a picture and post a "Found Dog" ad in some of the business establishments near you. That's the only thing I can think of that you can add. God bless you, sweetie, for your efforts.

Take him to the vet and have him scanned for a microchip and checked for a scar to see if she was spayed that may help in locating owners.

You can take him to the pound and have him scanned to see if he has a micro-chip. I would also call the local animal control to see if anyone contacted them about him being lost.
