They both treat pain, but are completely different medications. please don't take any unless you have a prescription because they can have adverse side effects including coma and death!

vicodin is stronger than tramadol. Vicodin is also addictive and tramadol is not. I have taken both. I do not take vicodin unless it is at night before bed or I am staying home. It puts you on cloud 9. Tramadol is very good at taking pain away but doesn't give you the hi that vicodin does.

Let's set the record straight!

There is a lot of misinformation on this particular question.
The two drugs are very similar in class and action.

Tramadol is an atypical opioid which is a centrally acting analgesic, used for treating moderate to severe pain. It is a synthetic agent, and appears to have actions on the GABAergic, noradrenergic and serotonergic systems. Tramadol hydrochloride is available in both injectable (intravenous and/or intramuscular) and oral preparations (e.g. Zydol in UK and Australia, Ultram in U.S., Zytrim in Spain and Canada, and Calmador in Argentina). It is also available in conjunction with paracetamol (acetaminophen) as Ultracet or Tramacet.

Vicodin (Hydrocodone and paracetamol ) is a selective pain killer and may be marketed as Anexsia, Anolor DH5, Bancap HC, Dolacet, Lorcet, Lortab, Vadunk, Norco, T-Gesic, or Zydone.

Vicodin, like other opioid analgesics, is used to manage pain. It is most commonly prescribed for mild to moderate pain relief associated from acute, chronic, or post operative pain.

Tramadol does not "cause" seizures. It has been known to lower the seizure threshold in persons prone to those events.

Patients with a history of dependence to the hydrocodone found in Vicodin, may have problems with Tramadol.

Tramadol is not noted to have the extreme side-effects of euphoria and disorientation as seen with hydrocodone. Also hydrocodone is one of the 2 most commonly abused prescription medications. Therefore tramadol is usually considered to be the better choice.

For most patients the amount of relief obtained from tramadol is equal or greater than that of patients on Vicodin. However, as Vicodin is so often misused and overdosed the patients will often state a preference for Vicodin, while continuing to complain of pain.

Vicodin is a combination of a narcotic(hydrocodone) and acetominephine. It is usually used for pain, but users take it to get high.Tramdol is not a narcotic, but acts like one. They both target pain recepters in the brain. They pain DOESN'T ACTUALLY go away. The hurt still hurts, you just can't feel it anymore. This allows you to function. Also, since the brain isn't registering the pain as before, the body doesn't rush blood to the painfull areas. This allows swelling in the affected area to go down, the acetominephine also helps with this as well as pain. If you are taking MAOI Inhibitors, DON'T TAKE EITHER ONE, unless your doctor says so. Check out the site http://webmd.com .Good luck!

They are simular in some ways...without getting into the whole science of the pills...they are both pain pills, they just have different ingredients.
They are both HIGHLY addictive so be careful!
With tramodol, I didnt get that buzzed feeling, but I guess some do, or else they wouldnt be shooting them up in their arms.
