Yes, if you signal left, but turn right, the amount of honking and cursing you get will be deafening

Habits ....you fall back on them when you aren't thinking....good ones keep you out of trouble, like signalling for everything!
......bad ones, will get you into trouble, like not signalling when there is an oncoming vehicle for example....... OOPS CRASH!
No more car........
You might be seen by a police officer and you will get a fine for "failing to signal" too, especially if you are involved in a subsequent crash and there are witnesses who state that you did not provide a signal.
I believe in preventive measures and lots of communication while Im driving. You can argue all you want about the laws, but we still have them to protect the public from harm.

Most States require use of the turn signals. Even though you may not get pulled over at one time, it may change with the next officer that sees you. I have not seen a turn signal lever that makes it really hard to operate, so just use them.

flrfh213 is right. You are legally supposed to use your signal for all turns/lane changes.
Also, it is common sense. Would you rather other drivers know what you're doing, or would you rather them plow into you?
