No. At the age of 12, and 98 pounds you are not too skinny.
Your metabolism is high, and be grateful for that.
Your mom may not realize that you're not an adult yet :) You are tall for your age, and thin for your height, but you won't really start growing until 13-20.
You just started growing :)
You're fine. Be grateful that you're naturally thin and tall. In fact, that's almost the perfect situation, far from the "wrong" situation you were thinking you might be in.
Your body will change a lot over the next several years. That's nature. But until it does, no need in worrying about being too thin, or too big, unless it's a problem.

You will be too skinny before long. You just hit your height before you filled out like a girl. You're a growing kid, and you need lots of calories just for that. And then take into consideration all the calories you expend as an athlete, and you should probably take in 2200 calories a day. Are you eating carbos? Plenty of protein? Milk? Yogurt? Cheese? Don't overdo with the fresh veggies, because they take a lot of effort to get full of them, and they don't add too many calories to your diet. I'm not saying to discard them, but don't use them as a major part of your diet.
You know, when football players are trying to bulk up, they stuff it in, esp the desserts. You're not trying to add fat, though, so a few desserts would be appropriate. I can guarantee you're going to use them up before they can turn into fat. Protien shakes & bars--only 2 per day. More than that stresses your liver/kidneys.
The kids at school could be jealous, but then they might think you're anorexic or bulimic. So let them watch you eat at school. Maybe they'll realize that you just have a very cool metabolism.
If you're worried, talk to your dr. There are certain disorders that cause you to not gain weight, but I just think you're growing and athleting, and using up an insane number of calories every day.

There are a lot of different ways to think about a person's ideal body weight. Some people would consider it to be the weight that was directly proportional to a person's height, so that you wouldn't have people who are short and fat or tall and thin...
A 'better' way to think about a person's ideal body weight is as what is a 'healthy' weight for their age and height using their body mass index.
Please keep in mind that many factors go into determining if someone is 'healthy' and that this is just one tool. Talk to your Pediatrician if you have concerns about your child's weight.
A 12 year old (female) child who is 98 pounds and is 5 feet and 6 inches tall has a body mass index of 15.9, which is at the 15th percentile, and would indicate that your child is at a healthy weight.
See the notes on BMI below if you have any questions...
To interpret your child's BMI, you can also check the Girls BMI Growth Charts to see if your child has a healthy bmi. Just plot your childs age and BMI and see what the percentile is. (See our guide to Understanding Growth Charts if you are not sure what to do.)

You are underweight.
I was 5' 6" and 103 lbs. At some point. I think your metabolism will catch up with your growth spurt, as of now you are a reasonably tall 12 year old.

Go to http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html and plug in your data. A graph will show you where you are in terms of the safe range for kids your age (not the same as for adults). I would strongly suggest doing it with your mom so she knows the facts as well. It's an excellent website for this kind of concern.
