I dont know, but if it is a first visit and to a family doctor you can expect to be asked what is happening... your self harm and your feeling bad, just tell the doctor what is going on and expect referal... discovery & recovery. It took a while to feel this bad, it will take effort and time, just dont give up.

Are you going to a general physician or a therapist or psychiatrist? Each experience will be a little bit different.
Regardless, the doctor will probably ask a lot of questions. They will want to know all of your symptoms, behaviors, and how long these things have lasted. Be COMPLETELY honest with all of your answers. This is the way they will be able to make a proper diagnosis and begin the best treatment for you. To my knowledge, there is no "test" to diagnose mental illness, so it will be primarily them asking you questions so they can understand your situation.
The most effective treatment for all mental illness is a combination of talk-therapy and medication. Both of these treatments take time and patience, so don't be discouraged if you don't see results right away. Medications can take up to six weeks to take effect and they do have side effects, but in my experience, it is worth it, because they are helpful in the end.

Bring a list of things you want to tell the doctor so you want leave anything out. Remember, the doctor is there to analyze your problem not yourself. He or she will probably recommend counseling weekly and will probably prescribe you a medication. The doctor will probably suggest rehab for the pill popping. This is up to you. Don't worry, nobody will give you a shot. It should be a good experience for you if you are having the problems you describe
