My mom had a needle Biopsy done on a tumor and the results showed that it was cancer. Then she had surgery to get the tumor removed, they did test on the tumor and said it was NOT cancer. Are biopsies accurate?

Needle Biopsies are quite accurate. However no medical test is 100 percent accurate. They usually try to err on the side of caution. For me its better to be safe than sorry. I'm glad to hear that your mom didn't have cancer.

Sometimes when they insert the needle for the biopsy, they do not get enough of a sample to confirm wherther the mass is malignant or not. To be on the safe side, they remove it.
Biopsies are only as accurate as the physician is at getting the sample for the biopsy.

As a breast cancer survivor I would like to think they are. However I have heard of false possitives. I'm sorry that your mom had to go though the surgery before finding out, but I am happy for her that is truned out not to be cancer.

There are no guarantees in life.
Be thankful that your mom's test came back negative. That's the better news.
Rub her feet, she is exhausted.
