People today say Islam is evil because of what they read, see and hear. Just because the Taliban kidnapped korean hostages, they judge the whole Islamic community as evil. Just because Al-Qaeda is labelled as a hard-line Islamic terrorist group, all the Muslims are evil according to them.
For example, a boy was buying something in his shop. He's a Muslim, and barely seven years old. You are the shopkeeper. When he enters your shop, and you know his parents are Muslims, do you blame him and say "get out of here, you Taliban!" just because the Taliban are hared-line Muslims?
Does every Muslim deserve that treatment even a small child?
May Allah S.W.T guide us all..

Sure. Islam can be called evil and yes, not only can a religion be evil, I believe that all theistic religions are evil. After all, the belief in a god is irrational. There is no proof that any god or gods exist. The 'evidence' that is offered up is the same type of evidence (holy books, stories, personal encounters, and 'feelings') that exist for virtually ALL theistic religions. So belief in on god and not in any other god or goddess is irrational.
While debating with a theist, Stephen F. Roberts said, "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
As I said, the idea that one being created everything is irrational. The notion that the bible or the Koran is a true representation of history and the true words of a god is irrational. Islam, like Christianity is an Abrahamic religion. Both believe in Adam and Eve. To believe that man was formed from clay and then had the breath of life breathed into him by god is also irrational. If you continue to read Abrahamic mythology, be it Judeo-Christian or Islamic tradition, the number of irrational and even ridiculous stories and situation increase significantly. When you start looking at scientific fact and compare this to the mythology of these or any theistic religions, and the irrational becomes true absurdity.
So how is this evil? According to Voltaire, "Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities." Look at the crusades, the Jihads throughout history including the current terrorist Jihadists. The inquisitions, the Witch burnings and the other atrocities done over the centuries in the name of various gods and you can see that he was right.
Furthermore, religious ideology and superstitions has impeded scientific study for centuries and, granted to a smaller extent, still does. Just look at the restrictions to stem cell research. Theistic religious ideologies and dogma are also morally deficient often following ancient and ill-informed rules based on a reasoning that is either no longer valid or was never valid but served a socio-political role. For instance, the inequality of men and woman even to the extent of misogyny, homophobia, racism and even "Divine Authoritarianism" in the form of Theocracies.
In addition, most religious followers will rear their children in that same religion. In the U.S. it is fairly easy to 'change religions' or abandon religion or god altogether. Although some peoples parents may not understand and it may be a point of contention and can even rip families apart, it's not very unusual; but it is a consideration that many people consider before 'questioning' their faith. Just look at how many people consider themselves to be Catholic or Presbyterian or Pentecostal or any number of other denominations but hardly go to church and except when directly asked, don’t give religion a second thought. Yet as soon as a socio-political debate arises, they jump to the side of their religious upbringing without questioning the validity of that stance. If this isn’t detrimental to humanity, what is? And what can be more evil then something that is detrimental to humanity?
I hope this helps.

No religion is evil only the proponents of a religion who do evil and say it is because of their religion beliefs. Jim Jones was evil not the religion. Davie Koresh was evil not the religion. Islamic terrorists like Osama bin-Laden are evil not the religion. The problem of today is that radical islamists want to have worldwide Islamic fundamentalism and a global caliph that is surely evil and is why the War on terror is not just Afghanistan and Iraq but in Africa, Asia and Europe as well at this time.

It's not the religion that is evil, it's the people. Many great religions have been flawed by corrupted people, including the many denominations of Christianity as well as Islam. However, if you really want to think about it...is there such thing as good and evil, or is it all just perspective?

Because people believe all the negative things they hear about Islam from the media, which is almost always distorted in some way. However, they refuse to learn the REAL truth about Islam. It is not a violent, bloody religion at all. Unfortunately, in today's world, few will come to believe that. With the help of a bias media and a gullible, massive audience, Islam is a victim; it is a misrepresented religion and is very misunderstood. Ignorance has spouted about Islam, and true knowledge fails to prosper. It is not fair to the majority of Muslims who are blamed for the actions of a few. I am glad that there are still some who are not so ignorant as to know maybe even a glimpse of the real truth, so thank you.

No one can say. Those who hate some religion say Islam is evil. Islam is not evil. You thing why a famous singer became a Muslim, because he found there is peace in that religion. He was famous like Michael Jackson.

Sure a religion can be evil. I'd call one that advocates human sacrifice evil--but there hasn't been an active religion like that in some time.
Is Islam evil? No. Why do people say it is? Mainly because they don't agree with it and/or it threatens their belief system. After all, if you think that your religion is proved true because people say a man came along and fulfilled the prophecies of another religion and proved it with miracles, and then a third religion says that another, later man comes along and fulfills the prophecies of your religion (with more miracles), you've got a little problem.

The only thing evil about Islamic religion is the
way it's practiced by Osama bin-Laden & co.
That's not to say, though, that Islamic religion
is definitely "evil." Hardly.
I hope that helps.

Of course a religion can be evil - what about the pagan religions that demanded live human hearts to be cut out to ensure a good crop or those who demanded children and babies be thrown into a live volcano to appease their Gods?

Most religion is from the devil and is evil. It makes people hurt others thinking they are doing a service to God.
Jesus said, "narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life and few are the ones following it.
Wide and spacious is the road leading off into death and most people are on it.
Most religion is false and wicked.
