Was the shot only for distemper or was it a combo shot? Dogs can sometimes have reactions to their puppy shots. It is hard to say if it was the shot or something else. Since he is fine now, I would just make sure to tell the vet about this when he gets his next shot.

When I worked at a shelter we gave shots to all incoming cats and dogs. Several times the dogs acted like they had the disease they were inoculated for. If I remember right the live shot can give more reaction than the inactive shot and the live has a quicker immunity time. You should tell your vet, he might want to change to an inactive one or separate shots. Usually shots are 6 or 7 way shots covering 6 or 7 different diseases and can be a little harder for some dog's systems to handle.

It's common in puppies.I personally follow the new guidelines that almost all the vet schools are are in agreement about.A dog that has has its 3 puppy vaccines for distemper has been found to have lifelong immunity.Giving anymore can cause autoimmune disorders among a whole host of other problems.I've not vaccinated any of my dogs past 2 years old(they're all semi-seniors and seniors now) and I do have them titered every year at their yearly vet visit.Their levels are always high meaning they have enough immunity(to simply it) to it.

This can happen with any vaccination. I'm told by someone who knows, that dogs feel horrible for about 2 weeks after a vaccination.
You need to read up on vaccination reactions and on how often a vaccination is really needed. My sources tell me that once a dog has had a bad reaction, they should never have another vaccination.

I would call the vet and let the vet know of these symptoms. It could have been a reaction to a vaccine or it could have been something he picked up at the vet.
Any time your dog gets sick after a vaccine or is vomiting call the vet.

If it was a reaction to the vaccine it would of been within the hour or so. Id find out of they possibly used Lepto in his vaccine this time but didnt use it last time. Either that or maybe they used a different manufacturer of the vaccine? The best bet would be to call the clinic and ask.

The same thing happened to my puppy. I plan on asking the vet about this. Sometimes a severe reaction requires premedication before the shot.

Your vet needs to be notified of any possible reactions after vaccination. If lepto was included in the vacciantion it wouldn't be surprising if that was the cause..many dogs have adverse reaction to the lepto vaccine..this is one reason it isn't recommended by the AAHA/AVMA for all dogs/puppies unless they are at high risk of exposure.
