Don't get me wrong here. I'm a FOX fan for NASCAR coverage, which differs from the fact that I think their football and baseball coverage sucks! The others- well, I have said that the coverage was pretty generic. Nobody's doing anything real special.
You all seem to have a point of view. If I could hand you a headset and give you carte blanche to do a race broadcast, how would you do it?
I've already said I'm a FOX fan- I think Joy, Hammond, Waltrip and Mc Reynolds are a good mix.
I will also add that I think Kyle Petty and Dale Jarrett are ood in the booth and should consider a switch.
Rusty's o.k., but brings nothing outstanding to the party. Punch is a solid play-by-play man. Dale E's old crew chief is pretty solid I suppose.
The ESPN track reporters handle themselves well.
In the studio- I'm not real impressed by the ESPN team. A mixture of a lack of product knowledge and just generally weak.

Jim you said it all very well,I concur almost 100%.But my gripes aren't really because of broadcasts per se,Its the zillion commercials we get and its ESPN breaking away at the end of a race without driver interviews or T.N.T breaking so fast we don't even get a finishing order. It also seemed yesterday we spent alot of time away from the action on the track and got replays of Tony's spin and Jeff's,but I can put up with Rusty or just about any announcer, but whats so dern important about Sportscenter that can't wait 20 minutes or so,my gosh Sportscenter is replayed a hundred times a night, you can only do "live" interviews right after the race.Your right too ESPN's studio guys are weak.

The formula is right, commentator; ex-crew chief; and ex-driver. The problem is Rusty talking out his ***, even Andy Petree sighed at him a week or two ago.

If Rusty knew as much as he thinks he does, he would have won more than 55 races in that well funded 2 car.

Im with you DJ and Kyle Petty did great job's in the booth.
Michael Waltrip does a good job with the truck races too.

Exactly what I was thinking. Those guys don't know anything about Nascar and are just grabbing for words. They blamed Gordon's wreck on a wheel hop. Gordon himself proved they didn't know what they was talking about when he made this statement after the race.

I would hire people that know what they are talking about. X drivers!!!

I think I'd change the concept of the race. For example and to wit: I would not show cars going around a track 150 times. I would show the first lap. Then I cut away to lots of bikini clad women. We then tune in to see the 75th lap. Then, just to break the awful monotony, we'd cut away to lots of bikini clad women. Then I'd show the last 2 laps in split screen format. The left side would carry the race, and the right side, just to be different, would be of bikini clad women. After the race, I would not interview the drivers, but would, as a contrast, show tons of bikini clad women.
