I'm glad that atheists have helped you understand your brother better. The worst thing that religion does is drive a wedge between you, and your family, its very divisive.
The bible says (O.T.) In the last days Elijah will come. He will bring families back together again. (Religion has driven them apart.)

If I have to thank an atheist for anything, I'd thank him for listening to what I had to say about Christ. I plant the seeds, someone else does the watering.
