Yes, but make sure it has been cured and NO rust. Curing is easy. Wash and coat with cooking oil, put in oven heated to 450 for 15 minutes, let cool, wash and use, DO NOT put in dishwasher
When done, clean with dish soap dry well before you store it

Since it's new, make sure it's seasoned well. Coat the inside with a thin layer of cooking oil and put it in the oven at 400 F for an hour. The oil carbonizes and creates a good non-stick surface. My Grandma said the best way was to coat it with lard and throw it in a bon-fire but these are modern times. Now you have the perfect pan for oven baked corn-bread. On the stove top,a cast iron is the only way(in my opinion) to cook a steak "Pittsburgh Style". With a little oil, get it smoking hot. Literally. Then sear your salt and peppered steak to perfection. I'm hungry now.

Yes cast iron is the way to go. Don't use teflon coated pans!!
The cast iron pan is a healthy way to go it adds iron to the diet and it also cooks everything evenly. Make sure you have a
deep enough pan when frying.

It is usually recommended because of the way it conducts the heat and it is nice and heavy which you need when heating oil. Personally I have never used our cast iron for anything other than when we camp. I have a big, heavy skillet I got at WalMart that works just fine.

So they say. I think you can fry at a higher temp when using one. Peanut oil is the best to fry in because it has a high smoking point.
