My husband & I are happy but it's too quiet with all the kids gone.
How can we adjust?

Do you have a pet? you could get puppies or something like that, I mean some couples just need someone to take care fo besides each other so why not to get a nice dog to give company... you could go with your husband and the dog for a walk, go to the park, it will keep you busy.

Why not to enroll in some classes... is there anything that you wanted to do before but didn't had the time for it... now is oyur time girl!!!

find things to do together to keep occupied and ENJOY the fact that you have privacy in your home now.

i know it gets quiet and lonely -- you will adjust!

if you don't have hobbies, maybe find something you like? join a gym? find a new circle of friends? (card parties, etc). perhaps you could volunteer at a nursing home animal shelter once in a while. take a class.. karate is fun...

you and your husband could go out on little (or long) trips and do some of the things you always wanted to do, but couldn't.

once you start getting grandchildren, maybe you could help care for them sometimes, too? they liven up a house, that's for sure...

another thing -- if your kids are living relatively close have a bbq or get together often.

i hope you get some good answers here, hon! take good care.

TOO QUIET????? I would say give it time and you will get used to the quiet and love it. If it hasnt been more than a year yet then be patient, you will find your niche and how you want to enjoy the rest of your lives. After all you cant adjust immediately after all those years. Best wishes

As you were raising your children, how many times did you say, "Someday I'm going to do....." or " Someday I'm going to learn to ...." Well someday is here. Take a course in something you are interested in. Start doing something you use to enjoy but haven't had time for. My wife took up mushroom hunting, I took up acting in a small community theater. We started going to neighborhood festivals, renewed old friendships. And now, we have grandchildren who come to visit and we go visit them. Now we have time to belong to our college alumni club and enjoy going to their functions. The big thing you have now that you didn't have before, is FREE TIME. ENJOY IT !
