Some just do. One of ours has a tail that's longer and she carries it in a curl like a leopard does, when she walks. The others don't do that.

Since all tails have the same number of bones what you're seeing is longer bones, not more of them. Stub tails, bob tails and deformed tails would have fewer bones, but they're significantly different in looks than a normal straight tail.

i could guess that she's only a calico mixed breed cat. Calico is available in lots of distinctive varieties, lots of which contain hues of gray and brown. The tricolor ones are only extra surprising, so get photographed extra. The long hair must be from a Maine Coon, yet ought to come from almost any long haired cat. a image of the cat could help.

Like we can be different from our siblings (have longer legs, bigger noses etc.) cats can differ from their littermates too.
But is it really abnormally long? if you would pull the tail back over her back, would it reach far past the shoulder blades? If not, or only a little, it's still normal/ average.

It can be just a harmless variation; some cats have extra vertebrae in their tail but it's otherwise perfectly normal.

its probably just a birth defect. i dont think it will harm the cat in any way. she will just be a "special" kitty. lol.
