WELL TERENCE, you do not have the right to make that a sin my friend. only the lord does and i dont think that he is planning on making that a sin. also you do not have to be catholic to think that is sin, (real) christians try not to say his name in vain and why would we even think of saying his name in vain look how much that he's gave to you!

You could interpret that commandment as not making an oath in vain. We should refrain from all unnecessary oaths. When one does take an oath, it should be kept at all cost.

Another interpretation might be that we shouldn't ask God's help in vain. If you see houses burning in the distance, you should not ask God to make it be someone else's house and not your own. The fire is already burning, therefore, the use of God's name is in vain.

Using a divine beings name to often and not in the way it was meant to be used lowers its value and place in your life. If you continuously use it then eventually its just a word but not something that pertains to anything great or divine. So we are told not to use it unless its in a religious meaning in order to preserve its sanctity. Also its part of all Christian groups, Jewish, and some other groups i would imagine it is in Islam as well but i am not sure.

im not Catholic, but this is what i belive it means. You are a child of God. When God says lord's name in vain he means it by people saying" OH MY GOD" to a stupid situation, even in a dumb situation, when God has nothing to do with it. At the same time they curse him, becausethey blame everything on him.

If some people don't belive in God why use it in their everyday language?

Sweetheart - it's not just Catholics. It is all Christians, Jews and Hasidic Gentiles for one that believe this.

It is part of commandments laid down by G-d. It is using G-d's name as curse word, instead of with reverence. It is taking the name of G-d as a vugularity, as something with no value.

Make sense now.

Second commandment by God Himself.......... You shall not misuse the name of the Lord you God.

What does that commandment mean....... We should fear and love God so that we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name, but call upon it in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.

it actually means calling out to god as though you control him to smite someone else or putting yourself above God. Like swearing by God, as though God is just someone you can use.

that's my understanding anyway.
