OK, the LH side tail lights and front parking lights on my 87 Volvo 240 wagon stopped working today. I checked front & rear bulbs, they're OK. R & L brake lights are OK. 4-way flasher works OK. All fuses in fuse panel check OK. Light switch checks OK. Bulb failure warning light is on, however all bulbs check OK (checked w/ohmmeter). Fuse 16 (RH lights) has normal 12 v. on it. Fuse 15 has ZERO volts. But the Haynes manual shows both fuse 15 and 16 fed directly from the switch on the same wire. What the heck's going on here? I'm stumped. What's left to check? Any ideas? Tnx. in advance.

suspect the bulb check relay itself.
ok they are a little pricey but if you use the pin-out diagram from your haynes manual and a 12 volt test lamp and find power at he appropriate terminal you will have "proved" the circuit and as this is the last stop before (ground [ ok because the other circuits work]) the bulb check is bad.

Clean the light bulb sockets. The 240s are notorious for a buildup of crap in the sockets. Use a small, stiff brush and some electronic contact cleaner. The bulb failure light works on current differential and the least bit of junk in the bulb sockets causes a failure.

there are two normal possibilities. 1. the contacts where the harness attaches to the lamp Assembly and or where the bulb holder makes contact to the "printed circuit" may have over heated and melted away resulting in lousy / intermittant contact.. either way you will need a new lamp Assembly [new from volvo theses are very expensive] decent aftermarket ones are available from KEYSTONE PARTS [this company can be found on the web] and are much more affordable 2 the bulb check relay located under the instrument cluster [above the sound deadening carpet] there are two styles, these can not be interchanged [yours will be RED] later models were black.. these are also expensive from volvo but from a salvage yard can be about as cheap as fill-dirt] goodluck.
