idle speed is not adjustable butthree things can cause this , almost every time two are involved.
1. throttle body has a carbon crust on throttle plate and air bypass ports are plugged up [use carb cleaner spray and a brass"toothbrush" to clean
2. throttle position sensor out of idle position limit [these are adjustable on renix systems but should only be adjusted with the aid of a scan tool. chrysler system is not adjustable and closed throttle reading should be less than 1 volt [typicaly0.87-o.93 volt with a clean throttle body
3 idle control motor sticking or defective [remove and clean w/ carb clean spray. don't forget the bore that it fits in.
NOTE the renix system throttle body has a thin aluminium plug over a torx air bypass screw if this passage is blocked w/ carbon remove plug and count EXACTLY the number and fraction of turns til it seats and record then unscrew it and spray carb clean until passages are clear reinstall screw EXACTLY and cover it with a blob of black silicone sealer
smoking or the use of an unshielded lamp during this job could cause a nasty fire, so don't..... good luck and get everything spotless and you should be back to the good

I very own a 89 4.0L 4wheel tension with two hundred,000 miles. Been there-- carried out that. My undesirable idle became out to be one undesirable gas injector. A wiped out water pump or older radiator hose or blocked hose would reason overheating. Even junk/rust interior the radiator could be blockading the fluid pass. Overheating in basic terms one time interior the previous would reason a leaking head gasket or cracked block (or cylinder head) which could deliver approximately allowing antifreez or water right into a cyclinder inflicting misfires and tough idle. regularly this ends up in low radiator fluid and particularly cases 'steam' or white smoke out the tail pipe somewhat whilst first began up after being parked over night. a good radiator shop would be waiting to assist discover it.. i assume you have governed out a dragging emergency/parking brake that became set yet then did no longer launch totally, and flawed engine timing? good success. questioning outdoors the field can help with any older motor vehicle. I even seen identifying to purchase yet another 89' that ran decident yet had some physique injury in basic terms so I had low fee areas and something to test on. TJ
