Do you think heaven is made up to give us hope?

No, because Jesus came down from Heaven, taught about Heaven and went back up to Heaven in front of many credible eyewitnesses.

Acts 1:1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 To them he presented himself alive after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

6 So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."

The promise of Heaven is perfectly logical. God made us. God knows He created us to be motivated by the hope of "getting" something. Just as parents like their kids to come home, He wants His kids to come home. It all makes sense if you are a believer.

A skeptic will never be convinced, until it's too late. =)

Hebrews 11:1 "Now FAITH is the SUBSTANCE of THINGS HOPED FOR, the EVIDENCE of THINGS NOT SEEN."

Stalin ( I think ) had a famous paradox, his premise being that nothing could be imagined that did not already actually exist. He challenged/proved his premise by defying anyone to 'invent' a new color. The fact that people believe in Heaven IS the evidence that it exists. If it doesn't exist, Jesus was a liar.

John 14 - "I go to prepare a place for you...that where I am, there may ye be also"

If you think God (the Father) and Jesus are both lying, why even have a concept of heaven? Just ignore it and live in personal anarchy. =)

Yeah. It's not that we can't all see the draw to the idea of "heaven." People die, and you want to think you'll see them again. You don't want to think that death is really the end. But that in itself practically proves that it's all a delusion.

absolutely.

And in response to Cooldude: So simply because people have bought the story for 2000+ years, makes it true? I wonder what the cutoff year was that made it official, 1200 years? 1500?

No Atheists live hopeful lives, they don't need the belief of heaven, I don;t think believers "need" it either, they just believe it.

Yes, you see God - you meet your loved ones, and even your pets. It is not made up. It is like another, more vivid dimension.

Yes. Heaven is a made-up concept.
I couldn't imagine a worse waste of eternity than grovelling at the feet of some omniscient "whatever", forever and ever and ever and ever and ever...
You get my meaning???

Prize and punishment. When they are in a balance that's the perfect motto.
