In my experiences at church, most all the women and girls wear a lot of makeup and jewelry. I know that vanity is one of the seven deadly sins, and that leads me to ask this question. Christian women who wear makeup and adorn yourselves, aren't you afraid that it is vanity and you will go to hell?

I've asked many women why they wear makeup, and the majority of them responded that it gives them confidence and it makes them feel pretty.

What are your thoughts? Please think about this for a minute or two before responding.

God bless you anyway!!!

If some women DIDN'T wear make up it would be a sin!

But some women ought to just smile.
It would do a lot more for the ditches in your face than all that dime store topsoil you're wearing!

Well, people treat wearing makeup like it is some type of personal hygiene product. The marketing companies have unfortunately convinced women that it needs to be a part of their life.

There is a huge psychological conditioning for women to wear makeup that stems from childhood, and eventually becomes an undiagnosed delusion. As a man, I am so sorry you all have to go through this. My eyes have been opened and I see how women are being abused by marketing, society, and EACH OTHER over the whole ordeal.

In today's world, women apparently do not have the choice to wear or not wear makeup. I'll elaborate. I've asked various women if they think they have a choice not to wear makeup? Most all said yes, that they do have a choice to not wear makeup. Then I asked if they would not wear makeup to a job interview? They all said no...

These women believed that they had to wear makeup to a job interview in order to compete for the position.

So women out there... You need to take back your power and fight this terrible atrocity. Most men are stupid on the whole matter and add to the abuse by treating you all like objects. I will do my part as a man, but I need your help. Stand up and unite while bringing about awareness of equality. Make your voices heard.

Have you been to a SDA church
Yes the woman there wear makeup but not to the extreme at least not at my church. Most wear it to feel confident about themselves and to "Look their best" which with a ton of makeup is impossible. People look better with no makeup than a ton. as for the jewlry we don't wear it hardly at all in my church, maybe a wedding ring and a braclett or necklace but the elders, pastor, decons and deconesses and youth leaders do not wear any except a wedding ring if that and the children are not allowed to wear any at all when singing up front or involved in youth activities

You can wear makeup however it shouldn't be to mainly get attention from people which is how the bible teaches it commonly its thought if a woman keeps herself by cosmetics or even working out its solely because she want to attract a man well what about when she already married Christ wants us to not only keep ourselves up internally but externally as well. We A Non Denominational Believer Yes people compliment me on my looks regardless to makeup or not however I still work hard to improve myself so I can live healthy and be the leader Christ calls me to be for the kingdom. Me wearing makeup is and me building the kingdom is irrelevant. Really the question is What is going on with people who aren't keeping to improve themselves but focus on figuring out other people

Personally I don't wear makeup but it has nothing to do with my beliefs, I just don't like having stuff on my face. Christians aren't perfect. But just because someone wants to feel pretty doesn't mean they're vain. Even if it is vanity, if you have asked God to forgive your sins that 1 sin in and of itself won't send you to hell.

I do not believe God really cares if we wear makeup and jewelry.. I do believe that we should try and be respectful and somewhat modest in our choices of clothing and how we present ourselves. I wear makeup...I don't cake it on my face, I just highlight some of my features..

I do not in any way equate this with being vain.. Sin is sin and we are not going to go to hell for wearing makeup and jewelry...God cares about what is in our hearts not on our faces..Saying that we are possibly going to hell for wearing makeup because someone may consider it vanity, is basically like saying someone is going to hell for having purple hair..which is absurd. Plus the seven deadly sins are all equal to any other sin in God's eyes...sin is sin period...whether it is gluttony, or lying or homosexuality, or sexual immorality- male, female, gay, straight..makes no difference..the fact is we all sin even when we are saved, being saved doesn't make anyone perfect, it just makes them forgiven.

Denying women the right to wear make-up in church would decrease church attendance. Decades ago the Catholic church had to "loosen up" some of their rules because they were losing followers. If women wearing make-up in church is fallible, it is due to the problem within the minds of men. They should work on the men instead of women always paying the price. Many other religions punish their women because of the problem within the minds of their men.

There's nothing wrong with putting a new coat of paint on the barn so to speak. I think if you go overboard w/make up, it makes you look like a floozy and very UN Christian like for a lady. However, I know I need to wear make up to enhance the natural beauty God gave me, that is not vanity and you won't go to Hell for being vain. The only sin that will send you to Hell is rejecting Jesus.

If anything you wear, or do with your hair, or anything that affects your appearance, and it distracts men from worshiping or concentrating on whatever activity is going on, then it would be sinful. Other than that, if it costs a lot of money or takes an inordinate amount of your time away from the things of God, then it would also be sinful. This is in the Bible in principle.

Where do you draw the line between good grooming and vanity? If she combs her hair, is that vanity? How about wearing nice clothes? Bathing? Brushing her teeth?
Sure, it's possible to carry things to the point of vanity, but who's to judge when the line is crossed?
