Any tattoo is going to hurt. BUT it probably won't be as bad as you're thinking. I was scared to DEATH but when the guy started tattooing, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.. Now I have 3. The guy gave me some great advice, though.. You HAVE to RELAX. If you just relax and BREATHE and concentrate on just breathing, you'll be better off. When you're relaxed, your endorphines kick in (those are your body's NATURAL pain killers).. It helped a lot. Also, make sure you have eaten. DO NOT get one on an empty stomach or if you're sick or have a headache. That was the WORST. A lot of people are saying that the lower back hurts the most or that the thicker the tat, the worse the pain.. I find that the THINNER the tat, the worse it hurts.. Because there is only one needle. But when they're shading or doing a thicker part of the tat, there's a couple needles and it really doesn't hurt as bad as only one needle. Also, my first tat was on my lower back.. It hurt, but when I got my arm band, it hurt a LOT worse, especially towards the inner side of my arm. But just chill out, it's not as bad as you may think and as soon as you get one, you'll be dying for more.

Ok...speaking from personal experience...Lower back doesn't hurt as bad as the upper back and both can be covered...Ankle hurts worse than your upper arm & arm can be covered as well, unless you like to wear sleeve-less shirts to work, then that one is out of the question. You stomach isn't that bad, but did hurt me a little more than the back...Scale of 1-10, about a 6...My upper back, 7; lower back, 2; arm, 0...just depends on you...If you're scared it would hurt, don't worry about it...The outline is the worst part because it's only one needle. The coloring is a breeze, because it's multiple needles & it just simply doesn't hurt as bad. Also, if it hurts too bad & you don't think you can finish it, the artist can always do the outline and finish with the coloring after it heals...But once you start, there is no stopping.

any place where the skin is against bone hurts, like ankles or hands. Also, anyplace that has "baby skin" like inside your upper arm hurts too. Areas like the outside of your upper arm hurt the least. But they all hurt to different levels. I have 4 tattoos and plan some more. When my wife got her first tattoo, it was on the upper side of her chest and she said it felt like a mild sunburn. When she had one done on her lower back last year, she said it hurt a little more, but it was much bigger. It depends too on what you get. The "shading" in or filling in colors seems to hurt much more than getting the lines drawn. So a simple tattoo hurts less than one requiring a lot of filling in. My large dragon on my upper arm didn't bother me at all while the drew in the scales and lines, but when they spent 3 hours doing the coloring, it hurt like all get out. Not enough to make you want to stop, but it hurt. The most painfull part was drawing the dragons tail, because it wraps around my inner arm. That's darn sensitive there. Like they say, "no pain, no stain".

Ok, first of all, it doesn't hurt that bad. Go get a safety pin, sterilize it, and scratch yourself with it.... No, not really, but that's what it feels like. Secondly, my tattoos are strategically placed on my back in the middle and my shoulder blades so that any work appropriate shirt that I wear will cover them if I so choose (my job's pretty cool about stuff like that). And yes, I look at them almost every day in the mirror, because I thought long and hard before I got them and I'm well pleased with what I got. My tattoos match my personality, match my style, and are something that shows pride in my son and my culture.

all my tattoos are on my back and they are always covered unless I want people to see them. The lower back hurt the worst. A part of getting a tattoo is going through the pain. If you dont think you can handle it, then dont do it. But on the bright side, the pain isnt unbearable. Just think happy thoughts while the needle is stabbing into your flesh :)

Don't bother getting tattooed if you want to avoid pain.

anywhere where there is a lot of fat won't hurt as bad. anywhere where there is a bone close to the skin will hurt much more.
