Certainly those who say they believe that god is real are aware that saying so is equivilent to a lie if they are incorrect... and certainly they are aware that they repeat their lies in order to maintain an appearance of belief whenever they are in doubt.

Doesn't it all come down to willfull dishonesty? Is that what having faith is all about?

Faith is the process of lying to ones self to deny uncomfortable facts.

You must sacrifice at least intellectual honesty and integrity to believe in the existence of a god, especially when you make claims about its nature.
I can sort of see the attraction - you get to deny your mortality and you get an all-powerful imaginary friend - but I don't see how they pull off the trick of actually believing that nonsense. It must be nice to live in a world where reality is what you want it to be, rather than what is.

Couldn't you say the same thing about atheists saying there aren't any gods?

When someone states something that is incorrect, that is not necessarily a lie. A lie requires intent. If you knowingly say a falsehood, that is a lie. If you say something that you aren't sure is true but speak as if it is truth, that is exaggeration or bending the truth. If you say something that is false but honestly believe it to be true, that is simply a mistake. And that is why a teacher marks a wrong answer on a test as wrong but does not accuse you of being a liar.

No Nardo. I don't lie to you or people like you or anyone else. Certainly not myself and not My God. If you can't see that not everyone is a liar I'd have to figure you have a big time problem with your self.

If it was just that easy!... I think the believers are seriously affected by traditions, a brainwashing system, a strong sociopolitical environment, community, and family pressure... All that, makes it impossible for many to free their minds!

Nightwind gave a very good answer. We are human, and we can be wrong about things without being liars.

faith comes by hearing gods word if you beleive in him, and reading his word, the bible. not all ppl who say they beleive in god lie about believing. there are certain reasons why some ppl believe in god and its thier right to beleive in what they want its their choice.
