An illegal alien cannot join the military! Entry into the armed forces is restricted to citizens and legal resident aliens. In addition, only citizens can hold commissions in the armed forces.
The sole exception to this is the enlistment of non-resident Filipinos, who join under a law passed in connection with our granting independence to that nation after World War Two, though I doubt if there is as active a recruiting effort in that nation after our major bases closed there.

The answer depends on how she entered the country. If she entered legally, and then stayed on after her visa expired there is a different process involved to the one if she entered illegally. If she entered illegally, she needs to leave before she is caught, otherwise the situation will become much more complicated, with deportation on her record, and 10 year bans etc. If she entered legally, and then overstayed her visa, you might be able to change her status via a spousal visa application (after marrying her). Best to get proper advice from an immigration expert.

what you heard was wrong. however there is some truth to it. illegal immigrants cannot join the military but residents can. this means that if someone is LEGALLY allowed into the country, say by marriage, they can join the military so that they wont have to wait the waiting period to become a citizen. hope that makes sense.

No although I think the idea of an American foreign legion could help out a lot with our troop shortages.
If your not a citizen but you can come here legally then you could join I believe. Personally I feel an illegal who wants to serve is more of a citizen than most Americans are.

Anybody, I say again, anybody can go to any Armed Forces web site and see that you must be here as a legal permanent resident if you are not a citizen.

You can not join the military without papers. That went out a hundred years ago. You have to be able to prove who you are, and a phony drivers' license just won't do it anymore.

no they have to be a legal immagrant (have a green card) in order to enlist.....they can however obtain citizenship more easily through the military, alot of the red tape is unecessary and they dont have to pay the application fees etc. but they have to be legalized first
