The best thing we've ever used is called Zanfel. Usually works with just one application. It's worked great on our kids.

Not home remedy, but this is all-natural...
Burt's Bee's makes a poison ivy soap that dries up the poison ivy just after one wash.

My mom SWEARS by that aloe-vera gel for sunburns. Make sure you get the stuff with LIDOCAINE in it. All I can figure is the alcohol content is high enough to dry up the poison ivy, and the lidocaine numbs it enough to make it quit itching. She gets poison ivy every single year, and we could never get rid of it without taking her in for Decadron shots and dosing her on Benadryl for days. Now she won't use anything but the aloe gel! She's got her sister using it too!

The only thing that I know that really dries it up, is oatmeal... crushed and applied like a paste or if you can get your hands on Calamine lotion, that also works and takes the itch away.
