My friend's dog has been vomiting blood and has been having bloody direahhea all day today. Wondering what this could be... her mother knows, but is unsure as to take him to the vet because of the cost. The dog is a Schnauzer and is nine years old.

They decided to take the dog to the vet tomorrow.
But the cost thing is a huge deal... now they won't have a car for awhile because they were saving their money to fix the car.

This dog needs to get to a vet as soon as possible. It could be a blockage. It really doesn't matter what anyone might think it is or isn't. This is serious. I hope you have already left for the vet by the time I post this. Get this dog to the vet. It isn't the vet trip that is exspensive part. The vet will charge a fee to see the dog. Then he will give you an idea of the cost. He may need to do an x-ray possibly. Then he would let you know what he thinks. I am sure he would give you an idea then of the cost. I do however believe it is wrong to let the dog suffer. The cost for not going just may possibly be a dog suffering and then dying. Evita

Wow people are mean on here. I under stand the cost issue i am going through the same situation and. Im sick an tired of people say hey you can buy the dog but you cant take care of it. If you buy the dog 9 years and the dog desides to get sick when your in a rough time with money then you have to do somthing other wise then a vet. The best thing i have heard is call the vet because it is free and they can advise you in every way better then anyone that is just a random person on here. Please Show you love the dog and spend some time with it. It seems to effect them more then anything then toys. I hope you the best of luck!!!!

Well, vomiting blood and bloody stool is certainly not a good sign. Why would cost keep the mother from taking the dog to the vet just to check? Vets will do an evaluation for not a lot of money. What if it is a simple fix that if left untreated leads to death?! And if it is a big deal, then do the dog a favor and put it to sleep instead of letting it just suffer because they are afraid it MIGHT cost money!!
Sorry, but this makes me angry. People like that don't deserve dogs and if you don't urge them to get this dog medical care he just might suffer needlessly.

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1571&articleid=265 has good advice: take the dog to the vet. Meanwhile, no food for 24 hours at least and no water for a few hours. Then after a few hours, a small drink of water. Keep him resting if possible so that he doesn't start panting and want to drink a lot. You might also give him some pedialyte in small amounts. Best thing is to take him to the vet...blood in the stool/vomitus is serious and a lot of things can cause it...poison, glass, parvo, etc. You might give him a little pepto bismol tablet or a similar type drug to help with the symptoms but he might not keep it down. Good luck

the dog can have a ruptured stomach. i hate to tell u this but its best to take him to the vet ASAP. but because if its age theres not much they can do. dont just leave him there and wait to see if it goes away. it wont. the dog is probably suffering right now. just take him to the vet and if ur lucky u will find one that isnt so expensive. good luck

This sounds like an emergency, and it is definitely worthy of a trip to the vet. If this has been lasting all day you need to go as soon as possible.
